The hubby and I live in that exact area. Our go-to for quick takeout is China #1 over by Bashford Manor Kroger. The food is great, and it's inexpensive. Their # is 479-0003.

Yea, I co-sign for China #1. I've gotten dinner to go for 4 and the bill was right around $30... and we had leftovers.

Fred, are you talking about Peng Looi's August Moon on Lexington Road near Grinstead? It's great! I'm not familiar with an August Moon in Hikes Point, though.

We get two entrees and wonton soup, and end up enough leftovers to last at least a meal or two.

Asian Moon on the corner of Hikes and Taylorsville is pretty good. I've eaten there several times. They deliver as well. My favorite thing that I've tried so far is the eggplant and tofu dish.

They also have a full sushi bar in addition to the more traditional chinese menu.

Is Asian Moon still on Hikes Lane or did they move? They just opened one on Blankenbaker near the Gene Slider. I tried it one day for lunch, very good, and they do have a sushi bar.

Thank you all for the suggestions. Though it's been a while now since my initial post, we did get around to trying Exmpress Of China. Lee's Korean, and China #1 (and will probably try some of the others soon).
Empress Of China and Lee's run a bit more than $20, but when we've got the money, we thought they were wonderful places to go. I was very impressed with Lee's. It took some persuading to get my much less adventurous fiance' to go with me (since we had never tried Korean before), but I got him there, and got him to order something other than sweet and sour chicken :x We were both really pleased with what we ordered. My fiance' was glad I had gotten him to order something other than his usual (maybe I can prod him into being adventurous more often!).
China #1 definitely fit the $20 budget, and while not quite as good as Empress and Lee's, I can see us returning there on a regular basis. The food was all well made, and and tasty.
