I would guess that's random, Clay. I'm not seeing it over here, and the changes have to do with styles and colors, not anything "under the hood." Anyone else seeing unusual slows? Also, what browser and operating system are you using?

It's VERY slow for me today as well. Internet Explorer at work (fast network).

I'm puzzled and obviously not happy to hear this, but again, it's operating normally over here - and no, the server is not in our back room :) . The changes you're seeing are cosmetic, not functional, and should have no effect on server response times. 'net-congestion on the Infobahn?

Nevertheless, we'll keep an eye on it, and we do want your reports.

I'm not complaining, because I know changing things is a work in progress, but my page-loads are a bit slow, too, even to the point of a few time-outs (where it stopped even trying to load). We are using up-to-date Firefox and a cable modem. Just reporting, not complaining.

See responses above ... none of the cosmetic changes SHOULD affect response time, although it's possible that the ad server could.

Do you notice, Marsha (and others) if some parts of the page load first while it seems to stick waiting for other parts? Ads at the top and/or LouisvilleHotBytes flying-pizza banner specifically?

Nope, it's not half-loading. Just long to load at all.

However, it seems fine right now :)

That's probably because when we set up this forum iteration we chose to use the servers we own at CNIWeb in Melbourne, Fla., which are shared with WineLoversPage.com. Unfortunately, while our server host down there is rock-solid, WineLovers gets such heavy international traffic on the site and forums that it sometimes bogs this forum down, too, as collateral damage.

However, it's a little strange in that today I haven't seen the problem over here. Usually when WLP gets the slows, it's one size fits all.

You're right! I'll report that.

Just an update, the Smilies still aren't working though it says they are ON.

Laura, I've told Mary about the Smilies and she will look into it, but please understand that she's slammed right now, and we may have to live without the smiley icons for a day or two until she can get to the project and try to solve it.

Meanwhile, remember that you can still invoke the smileys by typing in the traditional typographic emoticons. For instance, a colon followed by a right parenthesis will give you :) ... change the colon to a semicolon and you get a winkie ;) ... and a colon followed by a capital D gives you a BIG smile :D ...

Robin,
I wasn't trying to be pushy, just an fyi, that's all. And thanks for the lesson. I never use emotocons and was not familiar with the basics, but I am now! :D

I love being able to watch all the website development stuff as it happens...

I guess I'm going to take the opportunity now to be 'that guy-' you know the one that can't leave a joke alone.

There should be a game application on the site where you play space invaders... except the aliens are pizzas!

Noted, Karen, and Mary is digging into it. We should have them working again when all this is over.

Hey robin, as long as you guys are changing things; how about when one clicks on a link that has been supplied, it opens a new browser, rather than using the same one. I invariably forget and click x to close out and end up totally off the net. Just a thought.
