You all have got hold of a great brand. While I have enjoyed having people from Kentucky drive over just for their brand, its always good to share the love of great beer. We still have some of their winter seasonals in stock (Curmudgeon Old Ale, Imperial Stout, and Double Trouble). I've found their porter to be one of the best in the market right now as well.

We should have our one-keg allotment of Kentucky Breakfast Stout at about the same time. If I decide to be devious, I'll hold it until Ashley's is gone ... and then tap. 8)

Thanks, Shawn.

I might also note that Mike just tapped the Founder Double Trouble (Imperial IPA) for Gravity Head. It's a full 15.5 gallon keg, and it should last for a few days. The full update on the Gravity Head lineup is here: http://potablecurmudgeon.blogspot.com/2009/03/gravity-head-2009-lineupdate-for-monday.html

A Michigan Brewery not mentioned is one founded by an old beer buddy of many, Pierre Celis, and now operated by Christine, his daughter. The brewery name is boringly Michigan Brewing, and is near East Lansing.

i don't think the new version of Celis stands up to the old one, i've sampled a few of the Michiganized brews and they're good, but very average in my opinion

Their Celis line is pretty decent, but they have a really good IPA. I believe its called the High Seas IPA.

I spent some time with Pierre Celis a few years back. Very nice guy. Great to hear that his daughter is brewing. Most people don't know that long long ago, most brewers were women. Then men got involved once the money factor took over. To this day there still aren't many female brewers.

We'll be carrying Founders' beers at Ray's Monkey House. Of course. Probably within the week....

Cheers..

p.s. And yeah, we're big time Bell's fans. We have five or so of their bottled brews always, and always one on tap. Our distributor ran out of the two hearted kegs, so now we have their best brown on tap....

Ashley Isaacs wrote:Founders Brewing Company, an absolutely incredible brewery, just signed with Beer House and will now be distributed here in Louisville! Flanagan's Ale House will be hosting the release party this Thursday, March 5th, starting at 7:00. We will have 3 of their beers on draft and another 3 in bottles. For more info about the event, email me at ashley@louisvilleirishpubs.com. If you can't make it out, I highly suggest picking up a 6 pack of Breakfast Stout or Centennial IPA... it's delicious!

I tried a couple of the (bottled) Founders products this weekend (Centenial IPA and Red's "Rye PA) and while I personally still prefer Bell's Two Hearted Ale as a "go to" hoppy ale the Founders products were VERY worthy. As someone else stated they are certainly in the same league as Bell's, Stone, etc in terms of flavor. Is Michigan the new Milwaukee ?

Just as an FYI: We'll be tapping our keg of Kentucky Breakfast Stout on Friday, March 20, to coincide with a visit from Cavalier Distributing's (Indiana) sales and management crew. It will be priced for 10-oz pours (it's 10% abv).

Excellent. I'll be back in town on the following Saturday, so I'll definitely be up in Indiana that evening.
