That said, there are still good local joints with breakfast - North End and Sweet and Savory are great options, without the ridiculous waits.

Meridian Cafe! MERIDIAN CAFE!!!

I love all of them except Meridian and I'm not sure about that since I can't get into the building! I wish Louisville enforced the regulations for handicapped access so I could go to ALL the restaurants. It's very frustrating to say the least.

Here is what I spent at restaurants the last 4 months of 2008. In those 4 months, I ate at Mimi's 3 times, Amerigo 5 times and an occasional Subway. The rest of the money was spent at Bourbons Bistro, Varanese, North End Cafe, The Patron, 60 West, Limestone, Joes OK Bayou and Corbetts. A huge portion of my dining dollars goes to local restaurants in a city that I don't live or work in. I have to drive 35 to 50 miles to eat at these places. So I am sorry if I take offense when my choice for breakfast is compared to Waffle House. These are not business dinners either.

September $774.82
October $862.05
November $736.80
December $710.46

What about cars. Do you buy Domestic or Foreign? I live in America, what about you?

Perry, just to clarify, I don't think anyone here meant to criticize or make fun of you. Waffle House is a forum icon of sorts, and most of us hold it up as a sort of nostalgic "forbidden pleasure" thing. It's much like White Castle in that regard.

No harm meant by anyone ...

Dude, it happens. Just try not to read too much into a typed word. Body language, inflection, tone of voice, etc; all get lost here. I have been taken incorrectly at times and they keep me around. It happens.

Matt K wrote:Why would anyone go to an awful joint like Mimi's for breakfast, which is also a chain, when you could have much higher quality breakfast somewhere like Toast or if you don't want to drive all the way downtown, Wild Eggs

I'm not as harsh on Mimi as you, nor am I anti-chain as frequent both types of restaurants. But I wholeheartedly agree that we have two local places that blow it out of the water, and that is Toast and Wild Eggs. We actually finally made it to Toast for the first time on Valentine's Day and were very impressed with the quality of the food and service, so impressed that we went back again last weekend for lunch. Honestly I did prefer the breakfast, although the lunch was still very good, and I believe one of the things that make them stand out is the quality of their sides. The hashbrown casserole and potato salad were excellent. And I don't even know where to begin on the quality of Wild Eggs, but will suffice it to say that the ACE of a BLT is one of the best sandwiches I have ever had. I have given Mimi's multiple tries at two different locations (Louisville and Columbus) but after repeated encounters with bad service have not been back.

We went to Mimi's for breakfast for the first time yesterday....We went early at about 9:00 am because the line at Wild Eggs was already too long for me to wait in because I had to go to work at 11:00.

I would say that it was solidly average and nothing to get excited about...I would have rather went to Bob Evan's.

Colleen got the Crepes Cordon Bleu which were made out of frozen premade packaged crepes. Not that that is a bad thing, I use them as well and they are a good product when handled properly. But I could tell these had been either thawed too rapidly or left uncovered because they were dried out and kind of crusty in an unsavory way. I got the Corned Beef Hash which was fine, but my scrambled eggs seemed to have suffered from sitting under the heat lamp too long. But my Chocolate Chip Banana Muffin was quite tasty.

The service was well pretty much what I expect from a chain, hit or miss...On this occasion it was mehh. One of my pet peeves,(And this probably bothers me more because I'm in the Bizz)are plates that are left to linger when we are obviously finished with them. I even stack them at the end of the table in hopes that they will be removed, but our juice glasses and muffin plates and my empty creamer containers sat in a pile the entire duration of the meal. I'm of the opinion that at alot of these places, the servers feel it isn't part of their job to remove the dishes because they just leave them all there for the busser to get after the patrons leave the table. I've seen this time and time again and it almost always happens at chain places, with a few execptions. I also don't like having to ask to get my coffee refilled for the first or second time.

Overall, it wasn't bad, but I wouldn't be in any hurry to go back.

Now that you mention it I've noticed the same thing about busing tables and it seems to be worse at Mimi's than is in most places. Normally a waitress will at least remove first course plates and glasses but I haven't really seen this happening at Mimi's as you stated even if you push the plates to the side they just sit there for the rest of your meal. They don't even do that at Bob Evan's which is the same ownership as Mimi's, and the food is just a good there so I'd rather go there.
