Welcome Phil! No one has mentioned pizza? We have, in Louisville, whats called a "Louisville style pizza." I beleive our host,Robin, coined the phrase.

Anyway welcome to you and your wife and I would like to buy your first "Louisville style pizza"
PM me and we can set it up. Let me know what part of town and I'll direct you to were to go.
You might as well start with The Original. :D

I think this site will answer all your question about where to eat. It's ratings are pretty much dead on, plus you can sort by food type.

You just pointed a visitor to the local food portal to a national food portal! So much for keep-Louisville-weird-support-your-local-businesses, harrumph.

And they rate Mark's Feed Store as the best barbecue in town? That's all it took get me to click the X in the top right corner of the screen.

This is true, but the purpose of both sites is to direct people to local restaurants. Hotbytes was already discovered by the new user and the other site lists almost every other local restaurant in area.

I didn't know Hoybytes was a local business. If directing someone to a site that gives them info on all the local restaurants hurts your "business", just delete the post. It's your website and your rules. If I have broken them, I apologize.

I think if you give the site a chance it is more often right than wrong. I agree Mark's is not the best it town, it was just one category.

Justin, I don't censor like that.

I was a little taken aback, though, to have a visitor to LouisvilleHotBytes.com, a local food-and-drink portal, and its forum, a local food-and-drink community, abruptly directed to a national company that features lists of restaurants in many cities. Actually, WhereTheLocalsEat is a pretty good site, as that kind of thing goes. But ... yeah, Mark's as "best barbecue" and Emperor of China as "best Chinese" does kind of show us what we get when a national outfit tries to present as a source of local expertise.

It's really kind of like the chain thing. We preferentially recommend Louisville Originals and other local eateries over corporate chains, and - while it's not a RULE - I kind of hope that participants in this forum consider extending a similar courtesy when it comes to my publications.

I was just trying to give them a full list of the restaurants (no chains listed) available in Louisville. Some of my favorite local restaurants in Louisville are not "Originals" or represented in this post. WhereTheLocalsEat is mearly a list and does not inform like your site.

I would like to see a HotBytes poll on a "Best of Louisville" in all the food categories available, so there is a true locals take on the matter.

Questions:
Are there any spots that we call "supper clubs" in Wisconsin? These are unpretentious restaurants that serve simple but good American fare. Usually they are out in the country.

Where do the hipsters that frequent Proof go besides Proof? We have not seen artsy people anywhere else.

Where can we find gourmet groceries other then Jerrys, Lotsa Patsa, and Whole Foods?

We know no one in town and need to make friends. Are there any food or wine clubs to join?

Thank you for any help you can provide.

May I respectfully suggest the list of restaurants reviewed on LouisvilleHotBytes.com? I admit that it's not entirely up to date thanks to the unfortunate splash of closings and a few openings recently, but it's a pretty thorough, local list, particularly when this link is used in conjunction with the search engine space near the upper-right on http://www.LouisvilleHotBytes.com :

robin, i think your list is decent but it misses a lot of places all over the metro, especially newer ones. do you have staff that updates it? i know you hate gannet, and i do too, but metromix.com is really better for mapping out places. metromix doesnt have good reviews but it has a nicer search engine, and if you find a popular place, it will show the smaller restuarants next to it on a map. louisville and its suburbs have gotten big enough to need something like this methinks. also to the orignal poster, if you want artsy you have to get into the artsy scene, shop at galleries, go on gallery hops, mellwood arts center, go to baxter theatres, go to indie bars like nachbar etc. also i think you are missing out on old louisville. http://www.oldlouisvile.com hit the upscale restaurants but also the dive bars like the rud and magbar and talk to locals.
