Funny, Ward, but I had the exact same problem at Proof about a year ago. Server disappeared, never to be seen again, and we spent almost 30 minutes with no service at all. When the manager noticed us, he treated us well, though, and since he was left waiting our table for the remainder of our stay, we actually did get the free desserts that time, haha.

Again, Joseph, that was a joke. You seem to have taken it that way, but I just want to be sure. Tone is so hard to convery here. Maybe I should use more of thsoe emoticons.

I am very disappointed that we failed you on your First Visit. Sometimes, best intensions fall short in execution.
I hope you would invite your girl friend back to Saffron's or Volare one evening and would allow me to make it up to you.

Now that I read my post, I would like to retract my snarky comment at the end. I can tell the "man up" comment was made as a light-hearted, even self-deprecating aside and I think I overreacted. So - never mind me and play on. :)

Thanks, Ward. Yes, it was meant to be self-deprecating (and definitely light-hearted). Again, tone can be so difficult to convey, and I really don't like emoticons for some reason.

I hated emoticons for years. "I'm an English major," I said. "A professional writer. I don't need stupid smileys to convey tone."

But guess what? Yeah, I did. They may seem silly, but after working in this field for 22 years, I'm absolutely convinced that emoticons work. They may be only a rudimentary substitute for the winks, nods and gestures of face-to-face communication or the intonation of voice communication, but they do help fill a gap.

Oh, you have a point, to be sure. I'm the guy who types in full sentences and uses punctuation in text messages, but I probably just need to get over it. Marsha's common use of the devil face is pretty funny too.
