I can't agree more. I've always either worked for larger corporations (or stuff for myself), but I don't understand why any developer would set up a site for anyone without making basic content management available for the user. It just boggles my mind.

Like many people have mentioned above, building websites are so intimidating! We just want a simple one for our restaurant, Sake Blue, but webdesigners charge around $800-$1,000 even for a basic site with minimal flash. Not only that, maintenance is costly even if it's something really minor like uploading a new menu. I definitely value people who have the lucky skillset of being able to build websites, but it just all seems intimidating/time-consuming/costly. I do know that we have to have one, so it will get built one way or another! If anyone knows of any good web designer, please pass on their information to me!

Like most things in life, it boils down to money. Most developers would like to see some recurring revenue for updating the site.

Ah. Well, I just let my lack of marketing skills show, didn't I? Lol.

I also think the people who build the kind of sites we're talking about are more "designers" than developers. I'm guessing they spend a lot of time making things pretty and less time on functionality whereas my specialty is the opposite.

Took 2 1/2 years to find the right person at the right price for a basic website... when we need more we will just add in as we go!

I have a ton on information that I keep on the site, and I update it weekly (sometimes bi-weekly if I am jammed) when we get new products in stock. I personally don't care much for the look of my site, which has not changed in 4 years, but I can make all of the changes I want to myself, and do not have to send updates to an outside source to get it done, nor pay the costs of updating a site.

If the state ever allows me to do ecommerce on the site, then I would turn to a professional simply for the security aspect of it, but as I am just a spot for information at this point, I'll keep it in-house.

Actually your website is just what I like to see. I have no interest in music or fancy effects. Yours is attractive and easy to use and gives the facts about products and hours.
