Do not forget Sala Thai, now residing downtown next to the Humana tower and across from the center for the arts.
I am the original Mike G, never mind the impostor.

I am kind of a big deal.

Mai's Thai.........not in Louisville, but best local Thai I've eaten. Mai is a wonderful person as well as restaurateur. She describes her dishes as "family Thai". The Gaeng Keow Wan green curry with chicken, green beans and Thai eggplant is a treat. Mai knows how to effectively fire up a dish while still maintaining distinct flavors.

As a side note, I owe a long over due hearty "Thank You" to Leah S. Her "Mad Indian Hot" descriptor has enabled me to finally easily order and receive various dishes as hot as I like (love). Just change to ethnicity as needed (Mad Thai Hot) and perhaps accompany with a 1 to 10 such as 12 with 4 napkins.

Have you eaten there lately? When it was Sala Thai City Wok, it was terrible. If they got it back together again, it deserves a recheck, but I found it so lackluster on three visits that I pretty much gave up.

Joining in belatedly, I like Simply Thai, Thai Taste and Mai's about equally well, each in a somewhat different way for its distinctive personality. The other locals trail it, in my opinion, and I'm sorry, but Lemongrass/La Que don't make it for me ... not that they aren't decent places to eat, but I think the Vietnamese is the best of their three ethnic cuisines (I believe the owners are Vietnamese); and it's not up to Vietnam Kitchen, Annie Cafe and the other South End Vietnamese.

I ate there about a month ago for dinner and it was just as good as it was out in J-Town.

Guess I'd better head back! In fairness, my visits all were during the period when Sala Thai still existed in J'town and Sala Thai City Wok was a lunchtime-buffet alternative.

Robin

Please report back on Simply Thai. I checked it out a few months ago for lunch downtown and haven't had any desire to return. However, I'm always on the lookout for good lunch places within walking distance of my office and I'd be willing to give it another try if it has improved.

since i live and work downtown, i have frequented city wok/sala thai on a few occasions. i have discovered that i quite enjoy their curries but still prefer my noodles from thai taste on lower brownsboro.
there is something about thai taste that just makes me partial to it... service is always friendly and quick with a warm family vibe, which makes a huge difference. they always recognize me and offer a thai beer immediately, and they believe me when i say i want it 'thai spicy'! that's the important part!!! :D
i'm not much of a buffet person so i can't speak to that but i have never ordered anything from the menu which was less than excellent.
