Just a quick addition to this older post...
Had a hankerin' for wings the other night and I was already out in Oldham Co so my options were limited. I tinkered with the idea of making my own but instead I wound up at the little Chinese take out place in Crestwood Station. I bought 2 appetizers of wings, got them home and found I could have easily gotten by with one. They were huge! Really, almost the size of turkey wings. And I had about 5 to an order. And they were delicious. So for just a bit more than what it would have cost me to buy raw wings (that were no where near the nice size of my carry out) I was able to get some tasty wings without me having to cook. (Always a plus)
On another note... someone mentioned The Wing Zone over on Preston. I was in there at lunch last week on business (so I didn't get to eat) and it smelled heavenly . How would you rate it?

Carla,

A couple of weeks ago I got a jones for some wings and ended up at "Beef O'Brady's" in La Grange. They were some of the best I've had anywhere.

Wing Zone is okay. I get delivery occasionally. Their wings are very good, in my opinion, but the rest of their stuff isn't that great. It may have to do with delivery, but the fries and onion rings tend to be a little on the soggy side (maybe steaming too much en route). I don't think their chicken sandwich is very gooed either. I've never had the burgers.

Just for wings, I like.

I agree completely on all counts. I like their medium buffalo wings--nice and crisp--good sauce.

I am a chicken wing fanatic, and I'd say hands down, Spring Street!

Went on a Wing survey a few years ago with a friend of mine, and I have come up with my top 5.

1: Rumors. It is out in Middletown and was the first place I ever had Buffalo wings. Went back a few months ago, and they were delicious and drowning in a vinegar/horseradish buffalo sauce. They are my favorite.

2: Spring Street. Good spicy sauce. Very well done.

3: Taste of Jamaica. The jerk wings are terrific. We ordered 50 to go for the AFC championship game and had to wait a bit in the store. We ended up with about 60 or so of the most tender wings I've ever had.

4: Back Door. I little sweeter than the average buffalo wing, but still nice and spicy.

5: Flabby's. All you can eat fried wings on Tuesday(I think). Wed might me gizzards. Not covered in sauce, but they taste great.

I'm sure there are plenty of places I haven't tried yet, but any of them will hard pressed to knock any of these out of the top 5.

PS. Anyone had them at Rich O's? Do they have them? Can you dip them in their beer cheese?

Any image of Heaven that was in my mind has now been replaced by wings dipped in NABC beer cheese!!! Seriously though, I said a while back that Rumors wings are fantastic. Its been a couple years, but they are still my favorite.

Pat - agreed on Taste of Jamaica. Ken used to bring them over for UK games last season, but I think they've closed (at least that's what Ken said). They were REALLY good, and pretty spicy.

I totally agree about Rumors' wings. We crave them, at times, and nothing but their's will do. The folks that work there, and the owner's, Gus, and Sheri, are great people too.

The wings at Wing Zone are pretty good for what they are, I like the Hotter (4 out of 5 on their scale), Thai Chili, Hot Garlic, and I think I tried the Cajun once and also liked it. Since I live in the delivery zone I get coupon flyers in the mail and then have to copy them due to the fact that my work (around the corner from home) is hooked on the place and calls in orders for delivery all the time. They're also open later than most places so they're awesome to fill a late night craving for spicy wings. I do agree on the onion rings and fries, not such a big fan of them. I did try the fried mushrooms recently and really liked them.
