Warren Harding and Landslide Lyndon would like a word with you.

And it's not really fair to say whether it is or isn't business as usual with the new administration, as the discussion is focusing on stuff put out by outgoing administrations. We'll see what happens when Obama heads out of office, and judge it then.

Oh dear lord. Is it not bad enough he had to wage a war on science, freedom of speech, and general good sense? Did he have to attack good food? Maybe if we renamed Roquefort "Freedom Cheese," it would escape the wrath....

One thing that always amuses me is that Obama almost never passes up a chance to attack the cynics. Cynics have rights just like everyone else. Its like smokers and tobacco farmers. Sometimes its politically acceptable to attack groups of innocent people, even if you claim to be a champion of the people.

Anyway, I'm just glad I'm not the only libertarian on here. However I think it would be difficult to find one of us on here that isn't opposed to Roquefort tariffs!

Read the entire thread...my comments about "business as usual" were a direct response to the following and have absolutely nothing to do with the incoming administration:

"Also, note that the flurry of last minute orders and regs that come flying out of ANY departing White House - Bush or Clinton alike - typically contain a lot of mischief and deserve a close look by the incoming administration."

Clinton was the first to raise the tariff on roquefort in response to the EU ignoring a WTO ruling, Bush just kicked it up a notch.

I don't look forward to paying more for these products (if they are even available) but if I were using tariffs as part of a propaganda battle, I would have picked the same items - ones that also symbolize their countries of origin because that gets the attention of the media. I expect the tariffs will be lowered once it's gotten enough attention so that the beef industry can promote their case. That's just my opinion, it's not based on any factual evidence (kind of like the EU ban on beef treated with hormones!). I'm still going to stock up on Irish oatmeal.
