I hear you, Steve. "Brunch in a glass." I'd even settle for a two-four ounce chaser. However, after thirty some years in KY, I just order the beer chaser. Ms. Inman and I had pretty decent Bloody Mary's recently (no beer chaser). Maybe she will speak up and remind me where it was.

To clarify the mixer one step further than Alan's recipe, let the juice filter through a coffee filter, changing the filter when it gets too full of tomato solids.

I dunno...maybe it's just me (that's usually the case) but is there anyone else out there who (still) thinks that a martini contains gin or vodka...maybe a little vermouth and if you are hungry an olive or two. I am reasonably certain that that was Dean Martin I just heard roll over in his grave.

I understand where you are coming from, but it is what it is. We could call it Fred Flinstone, but that won't get us far in a websearch.

Stephen,

I'm probably showing my age here...but back in "the day" TGI-Friday's was very well known for their drink menu. Each store had a veritable encyclopedia of drinks that had been created by TGI "mixologists" from all over the country. Bartenders were encouraged to be creative and it was indeed a feather in ones cap to get one of your drinks published in "the book". I have lost far too many brain cells since those heady days to have total recall but It seems to me they actually did have a drink called the "Fred Flintstone" (or something to that effect).

Today's tendency to create a cocktail and call it a (X) Martini is simply a rebirth of the creativity that was common a few decades back...So it's all good.

I'm with you on this one, Steve P. Aren't we two old fogies though?

Steve, I remember it well. 1996 and I was a bartender in Orlando, Fl... back when flare was the thing and we were spittin fire and whatnot. There was this cat called the 'tin-man' and he was good, Real good!

Dave Allen, the GM at Varanese, is from that tradition. All grown up, now. Cool how we all develop, huh?

Thank you, Nancy Ann. :) Yes, they were excellent Bloody Mary's with lots of goodies, but still short of a Minnesota "brunch in a glass."

What's wrong with doing a 'brunch in the glass' party? Like I've heard they do at Keenland. Taco bar kinda thing...
