It moved a few months ago. It's, um, the top feature in this week's LEO/LHB review. Check the HotBytes front page
.

Okay, now that we've establishing that my reading comprehension is really poor right now.... I read the article last week but didn't pick up on the address change. Today I checked your old review for the address- which says they moved to Wallace Ave. Hence my brain fart.

I got the fish tacos at Sol Aztecas on Bardstown Rd last night. Truly weird. Tasty but truly weird. With a capital W. The fish pieces I think were breaded and fried, but then chopped and tossed with the other ingredients so it's sort of a fish hash in a flour tortilla. I don't know how else to describe it

I had one. Delicious, but not your normal fish taco. It's like they took some cook that had never had a fish taco and said "come up with a fish taco". Like I said, delicious, but unconventional.

Most things taste a bit better in LaJolla.

But do most people know how to pronounce it?

Oh my it was years ago. I'll never remember. A cute little cafe, with a deck overlooking the water. That probably describes about 3759103857 places.

I think the originator in San Diego was Rubios. Back when I lived there in the early 90's their fish tacos had a serious cult following. I think they only had a couple of locations then but have since expanded. By now they probably have a shop in La Jolla. The best I've ever had were in some sleepy fishing village somewhere between TJ and Ensenada. Few things in life can beat some fresh fish tacos and a couple of beers on the beach.

That is my understanding as well. I thought the original incarnation of Bazo's, in the tiny shop on Willis in St. Matthews where Kayrouz Cafe is now, got them spot on. They still do a pretty good job, but it's "evolved" a bit.

I know it's a chain but has anyone had Wahoo's fish tacos on the west coast. I've driven by quite a few and never stopped but have been told they are good.

Wahoo's has pretty good fish tacos - they're not the best I've ever had, but much better than Rubio's is now (Rubio's used to be quite good, but the quality has really gone downhill as they've expanded and become more corporate... as much as it pains me to say it, they're now more similar to a Taco Bell than a fast casual Mexican restaurant). Wahoo's fish tacos seem larger, fresher, and more flavorful than Rubio's, but they don't do the battered and fried version (only options are grilled or blackened). There's another small chain called Fin's (if two locations can be considered a chain - one in La Jolla and one in Bonita) that has even better fish tacos than Wahoo's or Rubio's... and they do have the battered and fried version. You might give them a try the next time you're out that way. Then again, if you're in San Diego, why bother going to any of the chains - there are hundreds of independents that have great fish tacos. Blue Water Grill and South Beach are two of my favorites out there.
