Robin, you could also choose Martini Italian Bistro in the Summitt....it is in the process of switching over entirely to being a local....as of now the Managin Partner, Jim Davis is a 50% owner, who will be taking full ownership within the next year....it's great food, a tremendous atmosphere and two private dining rooms to accomdate your needs. They are very local, from staff, to produce, to broadline distributor....you can't go wrong.

You could accommodate foodies and non-foodies at Oriental House by using the two menus. I'm pretty stumped by the quiet issue, though, and am really interested in other thoughts.

Let's not over-analyze "quiet" here, though, TP. I don't mean a hushed environment. Just the kind of place where people at the same table can hear each other talk without having to yell. I think a lot of favorites (such as Limestone, although price might be an issue there) fall into this category. Probably the back room at L&N as well. Etc.

I think you know my hang-up with noisy restaurants. I always place "quiet" at the upper end of my considerations, and my definition is probably more severe than most.

I think the Mayan Cafe would be awesome for your conversation group. They can pull tables together for you to seat 10.
( if your party of 10 can keep it down, it is pretty quiet place for conversation on a weeknight evening. 8) )
Bruce's food is so amazing and the wine list is great.
Also, you can call ahead and preorder some starters like some salbutes or empanadas for everyone to try as they arrive...

Dan Thomas wrote:How about Palermo Viejo?...Ethnic food that the even the most unadventurous will like!!!

I highly second this. I have a group of 3 or 4 guy friends, and for each of our birthdays we go as big group to Palermo Viejo, and they easily accomodate our parties of 10-15+ (with notice of 2 or 3 days). The food is ethnic, but as Dan stated, fine for the more unadventuresome palates. Inexpensive but good selection of wines, especially Malbecs, and you can easily eat for less than $15, or spend a lot more if you like.

If you stop by, please ask to be seated in Jessica's section (aka "Sweet Mama" on Derby City Rollergirls team). She'll take very good care of you.

60 West usually pretty quiet during the weekdays. Things are a little different on the weekends. If you wanted private, we would let you have our private dining room as long as it hasn't already been reserved
