You cant buy slices there, and each time I've gone there the wait for your food on DIne-in has been pretty long.

I am kind of a big deal.

I mentioned that somewhere along the thread ... J Train has a nice atmosphere, and the black-and-white photos of the real J Train (a NYC subway line that goes from Manhattan through Brooklyn) really give it a New Yorky atmosphere. :)

The pizza was okay, but it's definitely not NYC style, and it has a very odd idiosyncracy in that the edge crust is folded over so it's two thicknesses at the edge. I'd go there for lunch if I was in the neighborhood, but I would not count it in the thin-crust NYC pizza category.

Johnny V's (Old Hero's) opens Saturday...

My wife is in the food distribution biz, and has been working w/ him since he started working on the place a few months back. Super nice guy, and he's passionate about his food. I suspect he'll have authentic NY Style pizza, and apparently is proud of his sandwiches, namely the 'Speedy', which will be his signature sandwich.

We plan to give it a try this weekend!

I miss Hero's. Great salads and pizza. I LOVED the Gyro pizza. Amazing. Hopefully, this place will be just as good.

I am still not over losing our beloved Hero's. :x  :( Since we are a transplanted Queens/Long Island couple, it appears that Mike & I need to mosey on down to Luigi's and give it a go. We still debate over our hometown faves - Gino's In Howard Beach for me & Gino's (no relation) in Ronkonkoma for Mike, but Hero's was surely something we agreed on. We definitely enjoy the heck out of Spinelli's, so I hope Luigi's is in the same pizza style family.

I live close, so I am curious as to what style of place this will be besides pizza and sandwiches.

Pretty sure he's going to have a 'fun' atmosphere.......maybe catered to the sports crowd?

I do know he has 9 Flatscreens, as opposed to the 2 that Hero's had........so, I assume he plans to have a sports-bar type atmosphere, w/ good Italian Food.

Just my guess, but we'll be there tomorrow for lunch. I'll be sure to post my thoughts afterwards!

Please do. Sounds like he may be trying to compete with the Louisville Pizza Company close by. Could be tough. The location has been the graveyard of a number of places. Hope he does well.

Off the subject, but your comments on the place have to be muted if you don't think it is good since your wife is a vendor. I had the same problem when I worked. Praise was good .. silence was golden when instead of mentioning anything negative about a place. Even if it was not a customer, it might be a future customer.

That said I agree with Robin about full names. I would like to see less first name/initial.
