Kentucky Harvest is also a very good charity and is food related which might make some ssense with this forum.
Did anyone else see that the gentleman who runs it ( I'm so bad with names) got national attention the other day ringing the opening bell at the stock exchange?

I second the suggestion of Kentucky Harvest for the recipient charity. This great local food based charity is the inspiration for US Harvest. Stan Curtis is the founder of both.

Shouldn't it be The inaugural... instead of First Annual?

While that's probably correct, I think there is a possibility the general public might get confused with the Presidental Inauguration ( and the big word)...

Good question, Catherine. I'm not sure, but with the forum's permission, I'd be more than willing to contact them.

Steve, Scott and Deb, how about just omitting the word "Annual" and calling it the "The First Shrimp & Grits Throw Down of Louisville" or maybe "The First Louisville Shrimp & Grits Throw Down?"

HotBytes! I'm serious about this ... I'm all for this event and will support it with everything we've got, but this is a competitive media environment, and I hope you'll all join me in promoting and publicizing the site and the forum every chance we get. And remember that the circulation from this site, in its various forms, reaches more local foodies than any other medium, print or electronic, so our support doesn't hurt the cause.

I would certainly agree with that thought seeing as the idea was conceived and is being brought about by the members of this website...I don't think this site gets the amount of attention it deserves in the first place!

I'm sorry, Robin. I only checked Steve's, Scott's, and Deb's posts in formulating my post. Mea culpa. Furthermore, I totally agree with Mandy's observstion.

The English teacher in me totally dislikes the use of "Annual." Furthermore, I'm not certain that "First" is necessary either. How about "The Louisville HotBytes Shrimp & Grits Throwdown?"

I'm still willing to contact Kentucky Harvest to see if they accept monetary donations.

Will from Westport General Store is helping me put this thing together. Robin is also going to be involved in it. He has agreed to be one of the Judges. Will contacted JJ Jackson who is a FM radio DJ and he agreed to be one of the Judges and also MC the event. I have some one in my family contacting John Michael Montgomery to see if he will be the 3rd Judge. If not, someone mentioned Denny Crum. I still haven't heard back from the John Black Aquatic center yet. The date for the event is January 26th which is a Monday. Time has not been decided yet. The organization we are going to donate the proceeds to is the Autism treatment fund called FEAT. Will can tell you more about it. He has an Autistic son and he knows alot about it. Please don't hesitate to contact us about suggestion. We already have 6 people wanting to compete. I think before it's all over this will turn out to be a great event. We are going to call it the "Louisville Hotbyte's First Annual Shrimp and Grit Throw Down". We welcome your suggestions and opinions.

This sounds like a great Hotbytes' event--can't wait. I'm glad that we have decided to benefit the Autism cause--Will is a very active member of this Forum and supports many local causes. I feel that we should contribute to something that is a part of us. Happy New Year to all!!!

I have to ask. Is it "shrimp and grit" or "shrimp and grits"?

Is our venue alcohol-friendly?

I might just bring a shrimp and grits cocktail!
