Good point, Paige. I wouldn't eat Domino's anyway, because it's even more bland and flavorless than Papa John's. But even if it was bodaciously wonderful pizza, the founder's politics would still keep me far, far away.

Charles W. wrote:The only active restaurant boycott we've participated in was the Taco Bell boycott that our family extended to all of Yum brands. However, Yum really came through on responding to that boycott, and I would hope you wouldn't continue to avoid them. Since the workers involved were happy with the resolution, it would seem to hurt them unnecessarily.

Fair point, Charles, but they still haven't resolved the animal-rights issues. Further, as I said, it wasn't only their position on the farmworker issue, it was the approach they took to combat it, going into "anti-terrorism" PR mode, seeking to demonize their opponents, and walling off their headquarters (and the public ways around it) to protect themselves from angry mobs of, um, well-meaning church-goers. That bespeaks a corporate mentality that does not impress me.

Just out of curiosity, do you mean not "real" according to the genre (Cincinnati-style) or not "real" in some other fashion? Please elaborate.

Good question. It's not Tex-Mex chili. It doesn't have to be. It has its own, separate proud heritage through its Greek-American immigrant inventors. Everyone certainly has a right not to like Cincy chili, but declaring it not "real" isn't reasonable.

:D :D :D :D :D I will go to any place to eat except places that have smoking ...period......No matter where you eat they are providing jobs for people...waiters are earning tips and so forth...So this talk of local vs chains as far as keeping the money local in my opinion is bull...both pay taxes..both hire and pay people to work at there place...both give to charity..although the larger places usually give more...people earn money working at either place and in turn spend it also...

Boycott?

Boycott - to combine in abstaining from, or preventing dealings with, as a means of intimidation or coercion: to boycott a store.

I don't think chosing not to eat some place because you don't like the food constitutes a "boycott". A boycott is not a one person event.

But to the point of this thread being places I refuse to eat for whatever reason... pretty much the only place I REFUSE to eat is Cheddar's. Worst restaurant ever. Period. No one else is even close.

My review of Cheddar's is one of my worst currently online, and they earned it the old-fashioned way. I went back at least three times because I couldn't believe it was really that bad.

But worst in the world? I remember a rosticeria in Cuzco in the Andes that was worse, and not just because I was stupid enough to eat the homemade mayo.

And there was a chop suey joint in Mountain Home, Idaho back in the '60s that was worse. Come to think of it, there was a taco stand there that was worse, too. That was one grim little town.

But yeah, Cheddar's is pretty bad.

Cheddar's

Ok fine.

Maybe there are worse restaurants out there somewhere, but Cheddar's is consistantly awful. Like they strive to be awful.

Like awful as a way of life.

Like awful as a choice.

Like making Golden Corral an appealing alternative.

THAT awful.

I'd still rather eat at Cheddar's than Olive Garden. I'd get a cheeseburger.

Almost makes me want to go to Cheddar's just to see why it's so bad.

I've been once and the food was delish and the service was impeccable. I had a salad, a bowl of soup and a chicken dish. It was all well prepared and very tasty. I guess I need to go back a few times to find out why so many people think this place is THAT BAD.

My husband and I had a meal at Cheddars. Once. We were wary right off the bat (not sure why, maybe the name), but some neighbors thought it pretty good.

Um. Yikes. They sure do pile the stuff on the plate, I'll give em that. But more of a bad thing doesn't make a bad thing better.

We invariably shake our heads in astonishment at the crowds of people who show up apparently every day. The parking lot is packed and there are always people lined up waiting to get in. I really don't get it.

Especially when there are actually chain restaurants that do it quite a lot better just a hop skip and a jump away.

Yes, I will boycott or "black list" as I like to call it. The only place on my list is a local place in Sellersburg, Vicario's Pizza and grill. Point in case: Called in a take out order, when I got there the girl ringing me up charged me for the wrong order. After questioning the amount she realized that I had paid for the wrong food. I asked her to credit my card back and she said that only the owner could do that and they were not there. So I said thats fine, I'll call tomorrow and have them credit me the difference. She said that was fine but if I wanted my order I would have to pay for it as well!!!!! So I already paid for someone elses order which I can't get back until I speak to the owner, now I have to pay again just to get my order. Being stuck in that situation and hungry, I agreed. SO, I called the next day, talked to the owner, got my money back but no apology, no sorry, nothing. I voiced my opinions about the service and the owner could have cared less. So, I then told her that I would never be back and I would tell everyone I know not to go there. She said that was fine with her. This was about 3 years ago.....bet she didn't think there would be a FORUM!!

The is a general question pertaining to the original question. Is the purpose to put the restaurant out of business or to just protest against it?

Are those the only two options? I really don't think so. Seems to me that the purpose would be to get the management's attention in a forcible way that will promote change. And maybe to put them out of business if they're evil or incorrigible. But mostly just to get their attention.
