Is that the SAME Top Hat I visited as a teen back in the 70's?

Doogy it's about 100 feet from 22. It originaly was a convenient store. Last business was the vet and they built a building next to it.

Caroline I'm sure you and MB are regulars at Top Hat!

Keg Liquors in Clarksville on East Lewis and Clark ,especially if you are in the spirit for some great beer. Gemelli's on Brownsboro is a great local wine oriented shop ,and it's near me =0.

Another shout for Evergreen Liquors. Its a great place to get wine, and getting better and better for beer. Also, Keg Liquors is worth the drive for beer. All the best beers in one place.

Funny Wes...but, yes Doogy, I am sure that is the same Top Hat. As late teens we used to go there and try to buy beer in the early 80's-they have made the Top Hat design a bit snazzier.

There are a lot of wines, beers, and liquors that are not distributed in Kentucky, but are available in Indiana (this also works in reverse... I have to go to Kentucky to get my Great Lakes beers)

Should have mentioned you on my list, Todd! I'd say you might be as close to Prospect as the Highlands is - straight shot down 71 and shoot across the bridge, no problem ...

I vote for the Prospect Party Mart. I drive from St. Matthews. Evan Comer is in charge of the wines and may now even be the manager of the store. He's very knowledgeable at any price point but is especially good when you are on a budget. Which I always seem to be :D My second choice would be Chris Zaborowski at Westport Wine and Whiskey. He's the person who taught the wine classes at JCC . When Westport opened, he did a mixed case for me that was awesome. All the bottles were $10 and under. I don't think you can go wrong with either one. But even if you are for example, serving in a yurt, Evan will come through. I recently put together food & wine for Actor's 2009 Lobster feast for an about to be auctioned yurt sitting contributed by a board member. Nothing intimidates Evan. He did the research and came up with several "local" yurt beverages as "alternative offerings" then paired them with wines. His resource: a friend on the ground in that part of the world. CD

Right on Barbour Lane, behind the Circle K......in the old Barbour Lane Animal Hospital....we currently shop mostly at Liquor World off LaGrange Road by the Snyder...it's connected to Brix Wine Bar, which is a nice Jefferson County jewel.

I'm sure people will be more than willing to offer new suggestions, but using the search may help. I've been curious on this topic before and now know that there have been a number of prior discussions concerning "best local package liquor/beer store."

The Liquor Barn is my friend...Since we moved here we've had a large number of out of state guests and as a result have become regular customers. Everyone who comes to visit us from out of state is in awe of the place. Amazing selection of beer and wine.

I'm with Steve on this one. Patrick, Dale, Brad, and Aleck at the liquor barn are always extremely helpful. One of them is almost always there, and they can definitely point you in the right direction for beer or wine. Also, if you come to one of their monthly wine tastings (which usually cost around 15 dollars to try around 9 or 10 wines), you get 15% off your wine purchase. Almost all of their fairly expansive wine selection is subject to this discount.
