I love this place. The owner is super nice, the food is affordable and yummy!

We're in walking distance but I would probably frequent them just as much even if we lived further away.

I went to this place last night and it was awesome. I just moved from Texas last week and live litterally around the corner from this place. When me and my husband went there, we both wanted gyros but he decided last second to try the philly. We split the philly and gyro and both was awesome. This was John's first time trying it, does the gyro always come on a pita normally? :D

Nancy, welcome to the forum and welcome to Louisville!

Hummus is a paste (like a dip) made of chickpeas, tahini (Middle Eastern sesame seed paste, sort of like the sesame equivalent of peanut butter) and lots of garlic. It's yummy, but I like babaganouj even better - same thing but with roasted or smoked eggplant in place of the chickpeas.

Something that is also really good is to mix babaganouj and hummus. The best of both worlds. Yummo.
Great food along with great company is truly one of lifes best treasures.

Nancy, Welcome! I'm glad you liked this place too! It's a little hidden gem I think! I'm going to try to get my hubby over there this weekend. He will like the Philly and I'm going back for another Gyro!! The last one was amazing!

Thanks everybody, everybody in this city is so nice.I can't wait to go to some of these other places everybody talks about. This forum would be nice to have in my small city I am from.During the weekend i read an article and best of louisville and saw that gyros didn't have a categorie, but things like dinner rolls was. After going back again today ( I was craving one all day Sunday and they are closed sundays) I asked the owner why it's not a categorie and he said probably cause they ae not that popular yet here.

If you want another choice for great hummus, try Meridian Cafe. Had it there for the first time last weekend and it is really top notch!

I am definitely going to this place. It's been on my radar for a while now but for some reason I have passed it up. I usually hit Lonnie's for my "Chicago style" food which, for me, means Italian Beef, but I am hitting this one, well.... Today!

Oh, and just to clarify, "Dirty Kroger" is the Kroger on 2nd St. No wait, maybe that one is the "Kroghetto"? I get them mixed up...

Try ValuMarket instead.

I made it to Chicago Gyro twice in the past week.....

My gyro experience is weak. Two examples in my life. One was years ago in Hammond, IN.....Pretty good. Second was a couple of weeks ago @ Sharom's. I had their beef gyro....very good but I wanted lamb/beef mix.

My first visit to Chicago Gyro I ordered the standard gyro. A fresh soft pita was LOADED with lamb/beef strips cut nearly 1/2" thick smothered in Greek style cucumber yogurt sauce, crisp head lettuce and tomato chunks......Wow what a feast. :D I had to eat 2-3 strips of meat alone to begin to pick it up.

After hearing me go on about Chicago Gyro's fare during Thanksgiving dinner, Gina accompanied me for gyros this past Saturday. We choose the extra meat option and feta cheese added to the same style as my first visit. I was thinking leftovers. Just didn't work that way.......every bite was consumed.

The owner Tom was very cheerful and attentive. We will return many times.

Hi,

Stopped by Chicago gyros twice in the past two weeks once for lunch and once for dinner and on both occasions they were closed. There was a sign on the door saying "Family Emergency will be back shortly". Does anyone know what happened?

I had lunch there yesterday.......all was well. And scrumptious.

I was inquiring about local sources for gyro beef/lamb meat when Tom shared several pieces of "pre-sliced" meat that he tried but didn't meet his standards. Fabulous pan fired with fresh scrambled eggs.

¡Viva! Chicago Gyro
