Thanks for that link. I used to kind of enjoy reading the inspection reports in the paper, especially if there was a juicy one, like a roach infestation at a fast food joint. God, I'm boring.

Doogy, Is there anywhere on the website where you can look up what the defects were that generated the score? It would be nice to see why a restaurant received a score not just the score.

I agree with you on that point. All I saw was the name of the place, the location, the date of the inspection and the score. Did you notice that the score for this place keeps dropping?

Actually heard the story on the "Go Cards" C rating today. The inspector returned and saw the sign, enjoyed the effort but said it had to be taken down. He also took a pic, maybe this one, before it was removed. The inspector I spoke to today got a chuckel out of telling the story. Apparently it will go into the "Health Inspector Hall of Fame". I am sure they have their stories, as we have ours.

I didn't realize it at the time, but I think I earned the Tumbleweed on Outer Loop a pretty poor rating on what was my second day. I've never been one for following rules, so I think it was my ill-placed drink that the GM was ranting about when he said, "If I find out who left that drink there, it's not going to be pretty."

I was later told that corporate bonuses and the like were tied to performance reviews including these ratings, but I don't know if such information was factual.

Actually there are many corporate establishments that use the Health Code ratings for a part of bonus, I love the idea.

Maybe if they put as much effort into a better rating as they do in disguising a bad one....

My better half actually works down at Prime Lounge (or the "hip place for kids" as it was previously described...not sure that's the image they were wanting to portray!) Its actually a really nice place and they're trying to run some happy hour specials if anyone works downtown. Don't be scared off by the MetroMix pictures those are taken on Saturday nights at about 2am. And from a financial perspective, thats exactly the crowd you want on an Saturday at 2am.

As far as Devino's goes, its operated by some of the same ownership as Prime. My girlfriend says that the food is outstanding. I've not had an opportunity to try the sandwiches or pizza yet so i can't comment on that, but she did bring me home a slice of Strawberry/Blueberry glazed cheesecake which i thought was delicious.

I don't think there's any funny stuff going on there that should prevent one from eating there. I'll try and find out exactly what the violation was to end this speculation. Personally i know from years of waiting tables in restaurants in college, its pure luck that many restaurants in the city don't get a C on any given day.

Jason is right. We've been taking our employees and clients there for Wine Down Wednesday Happy Hour. $5 bottle of wines (the house wine that was served at Azalea's) and great mixed drinks. We usually order a pizza and some wraps and it's always been really good.

They do seem to have a failry good variety in their menu. Seems like I need to drop in next time I visit KY Bison Company and Creation Gardens.

You guys have me convinced. I will give the place a try. I guess I was a little bit jaded by a previous place called Atmosphere (currently the space Nios occupies) that advertised themselves the same way Prime does (as the hot VIP Spot) and served "food." That place served food as an afterthought. I guess that experience in conjunction with the "C" rating made me skeptical. Enough of the closed mind... I will try the place for lunch next week.

although it does take something worse than the employee's drink example

Actually, a beverage in the area of food preparation does instantly give a restaurant a C rating. I worked in one of Louisville's cleanest kitchens where fresh seafood and meats were served. We had one strike against us when the health inspector came and it was because the assistant chef had a soda sitting on a shelf below the grill. That instantly gave the restaurant a C rating which was obviously fixed within 48 hours after the inspector returned.

As I drove by this morning on the way to work, I saw that the "C" in the sign has been replaced with a regular C . Don't know whether the moved the Health Inspection "C' to another part of the window, or if it's been resolved....

As far as Devino's goes, its operated by some of the same ownership as Prime. My girlfriend says that the food is outstanding
.

I work a couple of blocks away at 2nd and Market and have eaten at Devino several times. While it's fine quick lunch fare, and they have several outside eating options ( a plus in my opinion), I think the food is only average. My sandwiches have been fine ( but nothing special) , salads so, so ( steak in salad was rubbery) , haven't tried any desserts or soups. They've been out of things everything I've ordered which is a little off-putting. On the plus side: Staff is very friendly and responsive, prices are a deal for downtown lunch, and food comes very quickly.

I was in there this afternoon, its back to an "A" now. I didn't press on the issue but it seems to have been fixed.

Probably a carbonated beverage by a food prep station. It's very common in the food service industry. After spending 24 years in it, I know. Or, it could've been a bottle of glass cleaner on a box of paper cups. Another no no.
