If you don't care too much how your steak tastes, then $12-$15 is about right. O'Charley's and Texas Roadhouse serve barely reasonable steaks. They don't work with my palate, but to each his own.

If you want a much better steak for just several additional dollars, go to Bristol Bar & Grille. I highly recommend the Steak Au Poivre, peppercorn-encrusted steak in Henry Bain sauce. Lip-smackin' good!

Steak Au Poivre + a good Merlot = a fabulous experience.

Dittos has a couple of reasonably priced steak options. $14.99 NY Strip and $16.99 Center Cut Sirloin - both come with two sides.

Well, "tastes just fine" is a matter of palette, of course. There's quality, and then there's QUALITY.

Steve, you may not be aware that you are responding to a man who insists that his steaks be served well-done.

Robert, I'm not trying to start anything or divert this thread but I have an honest question for you. Do you ever try new non-chain restaurants or are you pretty set in where you'll go because you know what you're getting before hand?

Again, not implying anything or making a statement with the question, just curious.

Without regard to how Robert likes his steak cooked, this conversation has taken a decidedly elitist turn from the question the original posted asked. The implication seems to be that if a steak isn't priced at $28 or more it isn't worth eating. Look down your nose if you must, but I think TR's quality is just as good, if not better, than anyone else serving an identical grade of beef.

I've been to places where you can get a steak dinner and all the fixin's for under $20 and I've been to the nicest places in town. The main difference is the service and ambience. There may be a slight difference in the quality of the beef, but is that difference really worth $100 just for the meat alone? To me it's not, but for that special night out or such things as that, the ambience and service may be worth the stratospheric prices.

In keeping with the cheap steak theme. Here's a fun article from ThePauperedChef.com:

Now you did it. I am sitting here and drooling all over my keyboard. I may have to head on up to Tumbleweed for a cheap, but good, steak fix. I really like the way they included the pictures with the article. Thanks for posting it.
