Thanks again everyone for all the help.

We have reservations at Corbett's and Proof on Main. Chances are we'll hit at least three of the coffee shops mentioned as that's my true love, along with the farmers' markets, and then we're actually going to the Slow Food Event on Sunday because it's a fluke that we'll be there for it, and we're very active in the St. Louis Slow Food convivium.

The report back will probably come in the form of a blog post, but I'll be sure to let you all know when it hits.

I don't drink cofee but I do like my Iced Tea...

I'm recommending a couple of places that are in the same "vibe" but may not be currently in the minds of some of our "Forumites"

Equus....The place that spawned Corbett's... They do what they do very well with Josh at the helm....

Mojitos or Havana Rumba....either one of these places are comparable to any thing you could find in Miami or Havana but way better....

While Jackson's is my absolutely FAVORITE coffee in town - they are open until 6pm on Friday and then closed until 6am on Monday morning. It is a 2-person operation and they have to sleep sometime! I would hate for you to head their way and then find them closed - I wasn't sure when exactly you would be here. BUT you can always pick up a can of beans to take home with you! Valu Market, Rainbow Blossom, Whole Foods, Amazing Grace, Doll's Market, Burger's Market all carry their beans.

Hello Louisville! I'm Bill Burge's wife, and I am also wondering about bakeries/patisseries in Louisville.

Is there a local bakery that makes truly great artisan bread, and/or pastries?

Has anyone ever tried Le Petite Patisserie & Cafe - if so, how is it?

We really appreciate all the feedback. Everyone's suggestions for dining spots helped us to make up our mind about where we are eating Friday night - Corbett's!

We actually tried to get reservations at 610 Magnolia, Proof On Main & The Oakroom on Friday night and all three had either private parties that evening or something other than normal menu service. I was happy to find out about Corbett''s as it was not one that came up in our previous searches for good restaurants in Louisville.

Didn't Le Petite Patisserie & Cafe close a couple of years ago? And wasn't/isn't the building for sale?

Sincere apologies if I have the wrong place in mind. On East Burnet St?

Blue Dog Bakery on Frankfort Avenue. Best bread and pastries in town hands down! Great spot for breakfast as well.

I believe you are correct. It was open for only a short time.

Definitely have to second Blue Dog Bakery! Definitely the best selection of artisan breads in town.

Thanks for the info on Blue Dog Bakery - from what I found online and what you guys are saying it sounds amazing.

We will definitely have to stop for some bread & hopefully we will have room for some pastries.

Thanks!

I haven't had a chance to comment more at length but here's an email to a dining friend in St. Louis as I didn't want your suggestions to go uncommented on.

We really dug Louisville...which is good in that I was born there. We were surprised by the lack of chains until you got into the deeper county.

Corbett's was a big time southern hospitality spot that's only been open a few months. They're aiming for five stars, they're probably at about 3 in my estimation. It was good, sometimes very good, but there were some weird areas of service like: cold butter, desserts that weren't nearly as exciting, acold plate on my cooked appetizer. I had a rabbit ravioli with mustard, braised collards and a natural broth that was a huge home run and one of the best things I've eaten this year. They have a vegetarian grand tasting if you and your wife find yourselves back in Louisville. By my estimation (which isn't much) it seemed like they had a very extensive (if slightly overpriced) wine list.

Of course then we ate at Proof on Main which I would frequent regularly if it were in St. Louis. Everything was a touch on the heavy side, but everything was cooked perfectly. We actually had a conversation about Niche with the manager because their chef had just dined there and hit it off with Gerard. Rabbit again was the hit here as they had a rabbit ravioli that I was almost enjoying too much to describe at length. Excellent charcuterie as well, and one of the best pork pates I've ever had period in that it wasn't overcooked as they generally are in St. Louis.

We have a few peaks in St. Louis (Niche) that might top your restaurants, but we slump off fast after about 10. You have a much stronger middle ground than we do, and we'll definitely be heading back to hit a few more as soon as possible.

The other places we went were Ray's Monkeyhouse (we didn't make it to Derby in time), Cumberland Brewery, North End Cafe, Havana Rumba, St. Mathews Farmers' Market, Bardstown Farmers' Market, and the Slow Food Event on Sunday.

How did you like Cumberland Brews? That is one of my favorite brew spots.
