I had a TERRIBLE experience at an IHOP in Ft. Myers, FL last year. The food was mediocre, and even worse were the weird, long-legged bugs stuck in drops of maple syrup, slowly making their way across the table.

Yes there was, in the late 70's. I was going to impart my tale of employment there, but after your injection of the "roach" story I think it's best I keep it to myself. I NEVER saw a roach there.
