That's not true , and you know it. How many times do we have to go back over this? Rob made a good point about the employment this place will bring to Louisville. The problem is that this place will not really bring any new dollars into the Louisville economy, it will mainly take some out.

What bugs me about these type threads....where does local end? Yum Brands is here....are we stealing resources because they have operations world-wide?

While I'm not a big Red Robin fan in any way...I'm glad they are expanding in our mall. Screaming kids need a place to go too.

Ditto, Marsha, on The Delta. The Delta is part of the city's history, and the food is pretty good.

I do have to say, the burger at Proof is overall my favorite in town.

It wouldn't be better or worse. Louisvillians would find other existing or new restaurants at which to spend their money and those would hire new people resulting in no change to the economy or the rate of unemployment.

I think it is perfectly fine that Red Robin has opened a store here.

Screaming Kids?

by Doug W » Thu Jun 05, 2008 11:38 am

My family (wife, 3 kids (12,10 & 7) and me go to the existing Red Robin occasionally. We like it, not great, not bad. While families do like it, I wouldn't say it is full of screaming kids. That makes me think of Gatti's or some other kid oriented place. I'd put Red Robin in the same category as Applebees, O'Charlie's and so forth.

Unfortunately, you can find people willing to bring their screaming kids to any restaurant and not enforce good behavior upon them. I think these folks hit Red Robin as much as they hit any other "family" restaurant.

Cheers,

Doug

as someone pointed out in the thread already, the profits will go to the Red Robin Corporation, which is not in Louisville. That will probably be less than 10% of revenue, but it will be going out of state. The CEO of Red Robin will not be supporting a Louisville homebuilder by buuying a new home with his profits, or a Louisville car dealer, or . . .

It is not bringing any new dollars into the Louisville economy because its customers are Louisvillians who would have already spent their dollars here anyway. But, if they spent their dollars at a locally owned restaurant, a lot more of the dollars would stay in the local economy.

It's not big deal. as I said, I am perfectly fine with Red Robin opening here.

So you are telling me that all of the local owners pour tons of money into the places you mention....Seems like the people from the manager on down at chains also purchase cars...buy homes and spend much of there money locally....We have a lot of local owners on this site so can you tell me just how much of your excess income goes back to the places that Ron has mentioned...

Well, the O'Sheas corp (O'Sheas, Flannagans, Brendans) just raised some $30,000 (or more, I'm not sure on the final count - and not enough, BTW) to try to keep the Breslin Pool open this summer. What has Red Robin done for our community to compare to that?

Very good point...and that is great. But you will find that a lot of chain places donate money all of the time....They just dont seek out the media for it.
