"No evidence, sir, but not overheated. The things that they say are designed to provoke an emotional response, and I said that 'by definition' they are a terrorist group. I cannot provide evidence that they actually broke into animal research labs, but it has been reported. But reading from their own website, I think that they are trying to scare me into a position where I refuse to eat KFC; my definition, a terrorist group.

Not to be argumentative....but that definition would include the Democrat & Republican Party, the church, and my mother.

Good to see we can turn a funny video into a PETA debate.

I personally buy the boneless skinless chicken breasts on sale at Kroger. It usually all tastes like the sauce I put on it. I sleep okay.

I'm personally more concerned about the waste Bic lighters produce. They're overshadowed by their bad brother, big tobacco. Does anybody ever consider the plastic that doesn't desintegrate that cases butane? Maybe nobody considers it because someone steals their lighters long before they have the chance to finish them or throw them away.

Kidding.

PETA did themselves another disservice in the way the attacked Eight Bells' jockey. Check out the Mike Tirico interview of the PETA representative who is most likely looking for a new cause to employ her.

I have no problem with anyone's "rational" opinion. When an organization backs attacking others with misinformation and lack of knowledge it loses any chance of credibility.

Similarly, Sharon Stone insisted karma took revenge on the Chinese government with the earthquake for its treatment of the Tibetan people. Too bad many of the victims were Tibetan people and being paid to recite lines on camera doesn't qualify celebrities to voice the public's real concerns. Stick to the script.

Sorry, but we got way off topic before me.

At least it's always sunny in Philadelphia.

Tony, I don't want to get backed into the position of defending PETA, because I really don't. Like you, I think their arguments go way too far. But "terroristic"? Really? I think "terrorism" involves stuff like driving airplanes into buildings, blowing people up with car bombs or suicide bombers, assassination, stuff like that. Maybe it's just me, but I like to save the strong words for situations where they qualify.

I've seen that episode and thought it was poorly done. It basically made ALL vegetarians out to be idiots/eco-terrorists.

I hate PETA and I am convinced they are a front by the meat industry to make vegetarians look stupid.

That is my point exactly! The word terrorist is now prevalent in today's lexicon, and where PETA is concerned I think it is more appropriate than the term "charitable organization." Donate a dollar to a charitable organization and you are saving animals, not funding news-grabbing disruptions of legal commerce. Anyone remember the Weather Underground? They were referred to as 'radical militants' back in the '70's, because we didn't know about terrorists back then. I, too, would prefer that the term was only applied to things which I find appalling, but now that it is out there it should be applied as deserved. And I apologize for ranting on a food forum, but I think chicken was involved somewhere along the way.

Can we go with "demagoguery"? I'd agree appeal to emotion is a bad thing in public policy, but not every bad thing is terrorism. PETA appeals to visceral disgust, not fear for our own safety. They use horror tactics, not terror or dread (to appeal to a distinction Orson Scott Card made between the three types of fear). Feel free to call them "horrorists", but I'm not sure that's a word.

I guess this means you won't be putting on a traditional ortolans banquet as a special, then?

Here is what I don't get about animal rights activists.

We're talking about food here. Regardless of how it is done or who it is done by, at some point. someone or something is going to kill and eat these chickens. It can be you. It can be me. It can be a coyote, fox, wolf, bobcat, wild dog.... whatever.

In nature, they prey on the weak, the young and the old. Most animals spend their lives trying to keep from starving, and trying not to get eaten. Relatively speaking, these chickens have it easy.

As comedian Jim Gaffigan said (when asked by a vegaterian if he knew what they did to those poor chickens).... "I have no idea, but it's deicious."

Unfortunately, no. I'm still hopeful about the seal cub meal, though!

On an quasi- related topic, has anybody tasted kangaroo?

I am no PETA fan, but I am damn glad to live in a country where they can state their position. Not sure how much longer that is going to be allowed here, but for now I am happy we still can.

In that vein, PETA also equated horse racing with dog fighting. Dumbest . . . Thing . . . Ever.
