charles, the analogy was more about choice and affecting the choices of others, than health issues
you as a non-smoker have the choice to enter or not enter a smoking establishment in New Albany or Charlestown
but, as a smoker (in a venue where smoking is a normal occurrence - a bar perhaps) i do not have the choice to enter an establishment dedicated to smokers (whether there are non-smokers present or not)
my point is that the anti-smoking crowd sets out to limit the choices of those wishing to smoke
as smokers, we can not even have our own designated areas inside public buildings in many cities (louisville included)
the next step in this train of thought is not allowing people to drink alcohol in public places because of the potential risk to the public health
i propose that we ban the use of fossil fuel burning engines in the louisville metro for 2 reasons
1 - the threat to public health from vehicle accidents is immense
2 - the pollution caused by these vehicles has a negative impact on the quality of life in our community
(remember the agricultural history of kentucky when considering this ban, tobacco was once as important to the louisville economy as Ford)
for those who are not aware -
our restaurant in Charlestown is NON-SMOKING by CHOICE, mainly due to ventilation issues and our experience with the affects of smoke on restaurant appearance, cleanliness, and overall food quality and atmosphere
