Re: So, how about a new forum for "where should I eat in ??"

by Rebecca Clark » Fri Apr 04, 2008 8:54 am

As one who posted a question for Fayetteville, NC .... I looked at the other forums first, wondering where it would be appropriate to post. Finding that my topic didn't really fit in the other sections, I posted it in the main one where I knew the most people would look. I also had looked on the 'net before posting. I think Jay M. summed it up best when he said we trust the opinions on this forum.

A separate forum would be great for archival purposes. It would be one of the first places I would check when traveling.

Either way, thank you, Robin, for Louisville Hot Bytes! You should "franchise" the idea to other cities!!!! :D

Okay, that's a new wrinkle.

What if we add an "Eating Around the World" forum? People could post reports in it at any time. People who want to post a "where can I eat in Jogjakarta" query can still do it in the main forum, but after those threads cool down, then they can be moved into Eating Around the World.

Anyone think this is a good idea? Anyone think it's a bad idea?

I think it is a great idea as well. I also agree with Robin that secondary forums generate a lot less traffic. So being able to post restaurant requests for anywhere outside of the 'Ville in the Louisville Restaurant Forum would get a much better response initially. Moving those posts to Eating Around the World when activity for that post slows would give users a quick and easy way to search for their next destination. And it makes sense that those who want to post reviews or dining experiences could do so there as well.

And this discussion has answered a question I've had about where I should post my question about where to eat (what pubs to hit) in Edinburgh. Thanks all.

By my logic, this forum covers Louisville and environs. You know, St. Matthews, E'town, Cincinnati, New York, London and Paris (and I don't mean Kentucky ... ;) )

I vote for Robin's suggestion. We don't travel as much as some of the other folks here, but when I have a meal someplace outside of Louisville that's worth mentioning it would be a place to toss out my opinion that could help someone that's going there and vice verso. I also think it'd be a great place to put the "Suggestions for dining in . . ." posts.
When in doubt, add more wine.

I certainly didn't mean to stir anything up too much, Robin - but I really do like this idea! (having just returned from Mexico City and had a lovely dinner at the Palm Restaurant at the Presidente hotel!)

I love the idea of the "Eating Around the World" forum. It would be great to have as a resource. As a marketing person, I think that what might solve the problem of lower traffic is to every couple weeks post a reminder on this forum that says "queries on Eating Around the World right now" - Stockholm, Spokane, Salem,OR" - etc. We've done this for the Forum offline section before, and it serves as a good reminder
