This was a post from several months ago, but Doe Run Inn has pretty good "home style " food. If the weather is nice, you can enjoy a few hours by the stream around back.

What about the Overlook in Indiana? While my dad was alive, he loved taking the family there.

You know I did not want to bring them up because of the chain issue...but I agree Cracker Barrell does have good food and a lot of it does taste like made at home....

I second that! The biscuits and fresh apple butter alone are worth the drive!

Joe Huber's Family Farm and Restaurant - Starlight, IN
Our Best - Smithfield, KY
The Overlook - Leavenworth, IN
The Chicken House - I think this is New Albany on RT. 111
Southside Inn - New Albany (in the past), I haven't been to the new one
Claudia Sander's - Shelbyville, KY

Andrews used to fit the home cooking idea, but that was long time ago when Andrew had it. He even got cited by the food police because his mother was cooking cobblers at home. Has changed hands a number of times and is now close to empty in the latest operation.

Southside in New Albany and Hubers top my list for that style of food though

Lurton's Country Cafe
8525 Sw Jennings St
Commiskey, IN
(812) 352-9082

I haven't been in a really long time, but I remember animal heads on the wall, a dingy interior, and 3" meringue on the homemade pies. Authentic, at least.

It's basically a straight shot north from Charlestown on Hwy. 3 into Jennings County.

I think Claudia Sanders stomps Huber's into oblivion. I haven't had a decent dinner at Huber's in about eight years. (My family loves it for Mother's Day, I dunno why).

We've got a group of Greyhound people heading out to Claudia Sanders' place on Saturday evening. I haven't been there for almost 20 years. Good to hear the food's still good. :-)

Their creamed spinach recipe has been a family holiday tradition for me. I want a big plate of their warm, yeasty rolls right now. Mmmmmmmm.
