Best Calamari?

Had the calamari app at Napa River Grill on Wednesday and it was very good. Served with two dipping sauces - cocktail and sweet chili. I don't normally order calamari (my friend ordered it this time) so I can't really compare it with other versions. Fyi...Wednesday is half priced apps & wine by the glass in the bar during happy hour.

I'll second Rocky's. Always perfectly cooked.

Serafini here in Frankfort also makes a very good asian calamari salad.

Don't want to upset anyone but I think it would be hard pressed to find anything better then this in Louisville.....

More seriously, I think this phenomenon demonstrates two things:

1. Just about everybody loves their favorite places.

2. It's not that complicated to bread and fry calamari, and just about anything breaded and fried is crunchy and delicious.

I do think that just about every place that's been mentioned does it well. And I can't believe I didn't mention Primo.

Basically though, if you are a Calimari-lover, as long as it's not overcooked and/or overbattered, it's going to be good. At least that's my experience, when it comes to your 'better' restaurants (which most listed fall in that category)

Jack's Lounge - fried perfectly tossed w/ Sweet Chili, Balsamic Carmelized Onion, Capers, and 4 Types of Olives

Many places are very similar to each other, pouring Sweet Chili Sauce out of the jar...

I haven't found anyone else with a sauce like Jack's.

Ditto "Rocky's"....excellent calamari...."Mamma Grisanti's" had great calamari...alas, they are no more.

Had the Calamari at Bistro 301 last week, and it was among the best I'd ever had..........seriously. I could not stop eating it, and it's a **HUGE** portion

Seviche - hubby does not normally like calimari and we had a tug of war over it!!

I can attest to to Richard's love of it at Seviche, since I was sitting across the table.......and agree 200%

Robin, I will take issue with that.......it's an art to do it right. I've tried it MANY places that I felt like I was eating fried rubber bands........

I agree with Seviche having amazing calamari. We shared it as a family and I didn't get enough so I had to go back again with just my DH so I could have a decent portion!

I have found the best calamari at August moon. It is not over cooked or rubbery. Its deliciously pan seared with onions and this delicious sauce. Def. check it out!
