Locally I would say the Cheescake Factory.

Nationally, any restaurant in the Papasitas group or Houston's.

In Kansas City, YaYa's Euro Bistro part of the PB&J Restaurant group or the Plaza III Steak house part of the Hadad restaurant group. Plaza III has been nationally recognized for years.

Most of these restaurants are not known as chain restaurants because they are unique, but they all qualify as corporate monsters.

you know...i never thought I'd have to go on a rant defending chains....as a food lover in a touring band (100 shows a year all over the USA), I have no choice but to go to a lot of chains so that I know what to expect.....

Subway. Consistent, easy, cheap healthy. Boring, but number 1 in my book of chains worth remembering.

Panera, always a step above, always the same, always worth it, AND free internet...a touring dude couldn't ask for much more, but more expensive than Subway.

Chipotle. Not healthy but tasty and inexpensive.

as for non on tour items, I actually really enjoy the Maccaroni Grill and a number of chain Mexican places, Yang Kee Noodle (which a number of people on this site have raved about) not to mention the fact that technically Seviche is a chain and in a sense so is Mojito/Havana Rhumba all of which get raved about on this site.....get over yourself Robert...we're opposed to bad quality, not chains...we think Olive garden sucks because it ACTUALLY SUCKS. Not because we're jerkwads! Stop acting like you're "super smart dude" that knows something we don't...

YES, we understand that there is a certain value thing going on with chains that you can't resist, but we have found that saving money does not necessarily equate a great food experience. Certainly both can be had, but your relentless obsession with defending chains that are utterly vapid, bland and not interested in providing a unique experience (free dessert on birthdays and "crazy crap on the walls" do NOT count as a unique experience) is seriously tiring and waaaay lame.

Not a comment on anybody's intelligence, but I'm just happy that there's still somebody out there that knows what the third declension of Latin is. Illegitimi non carborundum

I've also posted that there are chains that do food well. Bonefish is one of our favs. I too will eat at Macaroni Grill and we have enjoyed Amerigos very much. Heck I'll even eat at PF Changs if I'm in the neighborhood. As everyone keeps saying, foodies appreciate good food.

as I went to bed...I realized that while my post was provocative, and slightly amusing (at least it was to me) it wasn't the full reason we do tend to not like all chains on this board, and that maybe there is yet a way to explain it to our friend Robert.

We are all fans of food. We love food, appreciate food, and a special dining experience. Part of what this board is about is LOUISVILLE food, and I think it's a lot more important to rave about the local establishments that don't exist anywhere else in the world than to add some free word of mouth to a bunch of chains that would be exactly the same here, St. Louis, Chicago or in freakin' Wyoming. They already have plenty of advertising.

Since they are bound to a corporate doctrine and way of doing business, preparing food, and yes, even actual scripts in terms of how to talk to customers, most chain fall far far short of a special, unique experience.

If you want to discuss how great you think chains are, than you should start a "Everywhere Restaurants Forum." This is the "Louisville Restaurants Forum" and that's the way the dynamic is going to stay. If you're missing that point and it bothers you that much, then maybe you should look for a board where more people want to glorify chain restaurants.

Robert, A lot of people do get on here and blast the corporate chains. What could be the problem is, they may be angry at the monster chains that shovel quantity over quality, not "chains" in general, yet they make the mistake of generalizing by saying things like "Chains are the devil!". When actually they may not like a specific chain or two that are known for their power in shutting down quality local businesses. That generalizing of course allows you to call them out. So, perhaps not everybody reads or agrees with William Blake.

I think it's safe to say that when a person of whom is the main reason for a restaurants success, stops doing the cooking, there may be a loss in quality. It's hard to duplicate the original when you multiply.

O I have not become quiet.....I am impressed that this tread is already up to 2 full pages....and continuing...a lot of chain bias is coming through...some just cannot see it because the underlying problem is with the Corporate Chain and not the food....I wonder how many posts are from local places to eat.....But unlike some out there i will not throw barbs back at posts that can only throw barbs at me....By the way a new Texas Roadhouse will be built across from Old Brownsboro Crossing... Thanks for all of the comments...keep them coming in.... :D :D
