We'd be interested to try Shady Lane I expect, but can't access the website which is pretty much a prerequisite for us. I tried Firefox & Chrome on a Win7 machine, Safari on the iMac & even tried the Samsung Android tablet. Results the same on all of them: "Forbidden - You don't have permission to access / on this server."

Sounds like a permissions issue and probably one that's easily fixed. It would probably be a kindness to let Bill and Suzi know so they can yell at their Website provider.

And truly, if you haven't tried a burger from Grind Gourmet Burger Food Truck, get on the stick. Even their veg burger is amazing. They grind and hand-patty all their burgers. They have the veg and three regular burgers, plus a revolving special. Last time I went mine was topped with bone marrow butter.

Just sayin'.

Here is their calendar They also have a Facebook page.

EDITED TO SAY: I didn't mean to step on Bill and Suzanne's burger recognition, they really deserve it. The Shady Lane burger is an unbelievably great example of a true American classic.

Thanks guys and gals for the kind comments. I know its subjective, just glad to have the ink if you know what I mean. It is such a hard business and I truly don't know how a place makes it unless they are busy all the time. So we are happy campers and glad to make the list. As to the website, we lost control of the web domain somehow and could not make changes to it, so the only option was to finally have a friend shut it down. We are working on a new one, though to tell you the truth we have great luck with Facebook and have a "Shady Lane Page" with our menu, prices, specials every day, and little asides that we never seemed to do with the old web page. Hope to see all you new fourmites soon and thank you again to all the old customers who have passed the word over the last eight years.

I'm gonna have to disagree with you on this one Bob....

Once again this is purely subjective, but I've given Grind two chances, and I came away from both of them with a solid "Meh"
They're not in my top 20...There are too many consistently better burgers out there for me to eat than to trying to chase down a trailer.....Great ideas but poor execution on my two visits.

I'm so sorry to hear that, Dan! We of course strive to offer consistently amazing food. I'd be interested to know what you ordered and what the events/locations were where you ordered it. Not that it would make up for you being unhappy of course, but it wold give us an opportunity to try to figure out what might have gone wrong. Considering how much work goes into those burgers the idea that there is even one person in Louisville that wouldn't consider us in even their Top 20 is no bueno and we'd like to know as much as possible to see what improvements we may need to make.

I like the list but I was hoping the writer would talk about the burgers rather than his experience eating so many of them. I want to hear about the food, not your burger emo! :)

For months now I've been limiting my animal protein intake to about 4 ounces a week. I haven't had any beef in months so I thought I would try a Shady Lane's heralded burger for a special treat. It was everything everyone has said it was. Very tasty with that great crunchy skirt on it. Yup. It's my favorite burger so far. AND I was very happy to note that their fries very very good as well so even if I am not on a "meat day" I can still drop by at least for some wonderful fries. :D
