I would really like to give this place a try soon...like this weekend.

Two questions:

1. How kid friendly is Mussel & Burger Bar. We tend to dine around 6ish. OK for a pretty well-behaved 16 month old? Do they have high-chairs? We usually bring kids food, but our little eater can order from kids menu...so food is not my main concern.

2. Are they on OpenTable, etc. accepting reservations? I like to make a reservation, even if there will be no problem getting a table. Give them a heads-up we are coming with a little one.

Thanks. DD

Thanks so much Fernando. Gonna try and get in Saturday early evening then, with wife and kid-o. Really looking forward to it.

Sorry, I am Facebook challenged...do you accept reservations? If yes, Opentable, website, phone number?

Derrick,
I don't believe they take reservations ( they don't at Guacamole), but here's the number so you can call and ask. (502) 384-4834

Let us know what you find out. :D

Although I was skeptical of some of the glowing reviews that have been posted, my wife and I dined here tonight and thoroughly enjoyed it. We started off with the short rib nachos; she had the churrasco and I had the blue cheese pancetta mussels. The hunk of bread with the mussels came in handy for sopping up the sauce, and I ended up dipping my pommes frites in the sauce as well. My wife was ready to order a second serving of the nachos after we finished the first. We'll be back very soon.
Fernando & team: the staff went far beyond what was necessary to make up for the very minor blips. We didn't encounter anything I wouldn't have expected from a restaurant on its first Friday night. (We were sitting at the two-top in the bar area near the door late Friday, if that's a clue). Thanks again.

We went last night (Friday) at around 7:30. No, there aren’t reservations or call-ahead seating for parties under eight people. We had around a five minute wait, and were told that – with the kitchen slammed – they were not filling empty tables immediately to give the kitchen a chance to catch up.

For appetizers, our party of four had two mussels (one blue cheese and one curry), and both of us used every bit of the great bread to sop up all drops of juice it was so good. The other two split an order of nachos, which they also loved.

Main dishes were equally fine. My Argentinian burger had chorizo, cheese, and various other add-ons (it must have been close to 8 inches tall!), and was cooked absolutely perfectly (can’t tell you how many times I order “rare” and get “sort of pinkish” medium-well instead). The seafood “burgers” were deemed tasty, and all disappeared. It may sound funny, but for the sides my wife subbed out veges for the fries, and thought the asparagus and Brussels sprouts some of the finest she’s ever eaten. The standard fries are very good, but perhaps a tad salty for me (next time I’ll try the veges or the sweet potato fries instead).

For dessert, our friends had ice cream, and thought the chocolate better than the cocoanut or nutella (you order three flavors out of the selections available) but somehow managed to clean their plate totally. We split the pots de crème, and again loved the chocolate (great flavor, very light) best, then the nutella, and the pistachio least (it was great, but we were very full at that point and it was heavier than the other two).

One thing to note: eating out was our only activity for the evening, so we were not disturbed (and even expected) the delays and some problems that did arise. If you have to eat before a movie, or want a perfectly smooth evening, I might either wait a week or two or go during the week, when they aren’t slammed. For us, there was a 20 minute delay between the serving of the first appetizer and the last, after the appetizers were cleared we waited a half hour or more for dinner, and the nachos were generously served at “room temperature”, but again we didn’t care . . . I mean they have only had the keys since February 15th, trained a new kitchen staff, and on Friday must have had 2.5-3 turns with no advertising (other than a statement in the C-J that they were open) and a location almost impossible to find!

Plus, our wait was made easier by frequent appearances by Christina, who talked with us and explained what was going on.

We definitely will be back!

I would say one thing I wouldn't mind seeing is some sort of mayonnaise-based dip for the pommes frites. I had mussels at a Belgian restaurant once and the pommes frites were served with a garlic mayonnaise.

The server did recommend those, but for some reason I just went with the house version (which were still fine). I'll try those the next time.

Just finished up and waiting on the check while my wife gets our 6mo into the car. We were absolutely blown away. Fantastic food and super friendly staff. Can't wait to come back and try more of the menu!

OK, hard to find but worth the wander. Turn onto Six Mile Lane from Taylorsville Rd and take the first right into what looks like an abandoned parking lot, go straight back and there it is! Got a quick tour of the facility. Their physical space is big, way bigger than it looks from the outside and they have rooms of size for large parties/meetings. Seated on a two top we quickly ran out of table room. The waitstaff was great, attentive without being annoying. Tablecloth is butcher paper, a little crinkly and odd at first, but it's there for good reason. Mussel broth goes everywhere! We ordered appetizer portions so we could try a couple different sauces. My dinner mate I and I both thought the Curry Cream mussels were beyond good, the Meuniere and Greek versions were good too, but the Curry Cream was the star. House Pomme Frites were yummy too, especially dipped in the Curry Cream. I kept seeing the burgers being carried by, and that is on the list for the next visit. But how the heck do you choose which one? I'll be back. This place is a winner.

Awesome... we had a great meal and a great experience, but I figured this would be a good venue to give honest feedback on fixable issues.

We will definitely be back, and I'm sure my wife will happily have another milkshake.
