"Amateur Louisville"?

Amateur ??? I'm not sure how you meant that. Could you please elaborate ? If it was intended as a slight to Mr. Coomes I would respectfully disagree. I can't recall ever -not- enjoying one of Mr. Coomes articles. I find his work to be well written and insightful and I personally consider him to be the best "Food Writer" in town.

My problem here is the concept of 'the best.' You are wrong (and trying to be inflamatory.)

There is no such thing in this market. I hear this a lot- 'the best bartender in town.' I take it humbly, but mumble to myself:

'You haven't met my fellows.'

There are some serious people driving this train. Each with thier own persectives, each doing some impressive work. The chefs, the tenders, the writers.

We may not always get along- but we always get along.

Look at it this way:

Your dry-rub ribs are the stuff of legend. Chef Rogers and his 72 hour marinade lends itself to the pulled pork. Who am I to argue?

I take one taste and say, 'that's the funk.'

Nobody is wrong here- we are blessed as a community to have all of these people that care this much.

Can't resist the easy derail...

There is no necessary correlation between someone being "the best" or even "competent" and whether or not you enjoy their work. I enjoy the musical stylings of Vic Damone and also Britney Spears, yet neither would be considered "the best" at what they do and some would argue that they are barely competent in their field.

That aside, I have no knowledge of Mr. Coomes apart from this article and the fact that he friend requested me on facebook yesterday. Small world.

Steve,
Have you ever considered not posting something you know will be found insulting and hurtful?

I can't imagine that those on here who still love you can see this kind of post and not want to look away and remember when you were something better.

I will readily disagree with those who have more tact than I about who is the best writer in this region who happens to use his skills to write in this genre. I think all of the food writers around here do a fine job and I happily read them all when I want to know about a restaurant.

When I want to be entertained and invited along to an experience that provides me far more than just what I can expect to eat if I go to that restaurant – I read Robin Garr.

Antonia L, another accomplished story teller, will someday be a “force to reckon with” if she chooses.

My favorite writer hardly comes around here at all anymore and we are all diminished for it. Cheers!

Which paid-by-the-word Victorian do you claim as your favorite (and, surely, as your model)?

I kid, Shane, I kid.

Hi... I'm new to the forum, but I was wondering about this. Could the opening of Mozzaria have anything to do with this? I unfortunately was never able to try Mozz since I moved here, but I have tried Mozzaria twice and was severely underwhelmed by the food there. I know that Mozzaria is supposed to be the lunch cafe sort of version of Mozz... is it still open?

Welcome to the forum, Adam! There was a spate of publicity about Mozzaria being served court papers a while back, and it appeared to be interlocked with the declining fate of Mozz.

But that being said, I just called over to Mozzaria, the phone was answered promptly, and the voice on the other end said "of course" they are still open.

So that's the story from here.

the article made it seem that Mozzaria spun off from Mozz and is now its own thing, so I would expect it to keep going as long as it can under its own steam.

I have not been as I have no desire to step back in to that section of road, but I wish them well.

Thanks Antonia, Robin, and Ronnie! This may allow me to give Mozzaria a third chance... once enough time has passed after the separation of the two. I really like their concept, but I just hope execution can improve.

Thanks again!
