Ned A wrote:And Shane, were you really able to download it for free - everything on here suggests that it costs $2.99? If it is free then honestly I missed that somewhere, and wouldn't expect anything more performancewise from it than any of the other free apps that supposedly stay up to date.

No my bad. It's not free. My smart phone operator downloaded the wrong app. She somehow found a reference to the WhyWait app which is free. So, sorry about the misinformation. Once she is no longer pissed at me for telling her she downloaded the wrong app (sigh) perhaps she will download the Menu and Hours app and I can see how it works. It's all in the tone isn't it? Cheers Ned!

Shane,
I bought mine for $2.99- you must have a connection...

Interface is really nice- very clean and easy to operate. Great for reading on a smartphone. Nice to see example menus and there are some interesting categories ( Farm to table anyone?) Only a partial listing of restaurants right now ( neither Anchorage Cafe nor The Village Anchor are listed ), but I'm sure they'll enhance it. Really like the ability to search for a menu item- where was this when I needed to see who had Chicken & Dumplings on their menu?

Deb, see above. Donna just now downloaded the Menu and Hours app for $2.99. So I have the app now but I'm still just getting one word responses from the smart phone operator!

I could really use an app for that. It would constantly scan my dialog stream and before I could issue forth another stupid, thoughtless remark it would flash up a big caution sign that only I could see and would offer me more acceptable options. It might work like this:

<<<Oh man! You down loaded the wrong app. How did you do that?>>>

Caution – probable unacceptable statement!!!!

Options:

1. Dear, sorry but I think I had you download the wrong app. When you get a moment could you download another one for me?
2. Darling, I really appreciate you downloading that app for me. Would you mind downloading another?
3. Oh I'm so stupid! I had you download the wrong app. Now what am I going to do?

Now that app would be priceless!

Ned A wrote:I had my own little rant about this project previously when Richard posted the Kickstarter link around Christmas last year. One of my concerns originally still holds true for me. We (Napa River Grill) were never contacted about verifying info that she is using on the app. I have no way to contact her (that I know of) if the info she has is incorrect or if I make a change to the menu.

Someone in authority had to sign an agreement and submit the original info. Additionally, in my original post about about the Kickstarter for Menus and Hours I put the link to that page and PROMINENTLY on that page is a "Contact Us" link.

She would have to be checking everyone's websites constantly to make sure that all her info is updated (which I kind of doubt her, or anyone lese on the team will be doing). Lastly, I am not willing to pay $2.99 just to find out if the info she has on my restaurant is correct.
As I said before, I think Urbanspoon's app is probably a far superior medium, and I can acttually edit our info at my leisure with my "owners account" (which is free).

I NEVER use urbanspoon or yelp for the very reason you cite. Owners can edit. I don't trust the great, good, bad or poor reviews on either of those. It's like the wikipedia of reviews. If I didn't like you I could go in, write a rather sophisticated Robin type review of Napa and not be harsh but use just enough less than stellar performance words that it would detrimental.

I am a little curious to see what the app looks like but again don't want to pay. Does she use our logo?
No Logos Were Abused In The Making of Menu and Hours, and none are used
(which again we were never contacted on to my knowledge so if she is using it she has gotten our permission) If you want I'll gift you one if you will send me your Apple ID. I can afford the $2.99.

If anyone has used it yet, I would be curious to know more. I do not mean to belittle Michelle or her efforts so please don;t read me that way. I do love her blog and visit it often.

Obviously I am using it already. I am so confused though as to why an independent restaurant would not want to have all the contact possible with potential guests. How many times a year do you all change your menu? A total make over, or do you drop this and that and add here and there? Do you change your hours seasonally? Or ever?

You know what else? All three LOCAL locations of Wild Eggs are in the App as well!

Two things are readily apparent to me. First, someone higher up in that corporation understands and has smartly joined in. Second - my personal opinion is there is something else behind this over reaching animosity.

Richard, with respect - Ned's posts did not stike me as reflecting animosity specifically towards this app or its creator. I didn't read his original rant (his words) but it appeared to me he was mostly expressing frustration with previous websites/apps and some reservation that this app might not be any better. I thought his posts respectful and it seemed he was looking for more information.

Having said that, I intend to check this app out myself over the next few months and I will happily share my opinions about its worth along the way. I hope its great but if not, $2.99 was a small price to pay for the chance. I've already noticed several restaurants missing. Here's hoping the database is still being compiled. So far, I like the way it operates and displays. Cheers Richard!

I’d like to issue a sincere apology to Michelle Jones of the Menu and Hours app. I shared my opinions carelessly without realizing that the owner of our restaurant signed an agreement in February of this year to be included in the app. My opinions do not reflect that of Napa River Grill or my employer, JD Rothberg.
I applaud Michelle for her efforts in publicizing the incredible independent restaurants in our city and am thankful for the opportunity to be included in her app. I wish her and the Menu and Hours app nothing but the best and look forward to supporting it however I can.
Sincerely,
Ned Anderson
