Annie Cafe's Pho, rice noodle soup with tofu and a side of bean sprouts and basil (V8) is the best restaurant soup in the city, IMHO. Delicious, served with fresh basil that will soften in the hot broth, customize your own level of heat with Sriracha and filling.....definitely worth the trip. The curry soup @ Roots/Heart and Soy is a close second.

I was gonna suggest SoupByCycle, but it looks like he's gone. :(

I'll give a third the the pho at Annie's! I like so much I have it at least once, if not twice a week.

Not sure how sensitive your mouth is, but rainbow blossom always has delicious soups, as does whole foods, but you probably know that. Rainbow Blossom's soups are the cheaper of the two. Love all the other suggestions, of course, especially Uptown's shrimp bisque.

There isn't a restaurant in town that has had more soups featured in the paper than our Shady Lane. Mushroom, Black Bean, Tomato Basil... just to name a few. And on every other Friday, I make a killer New England Chowder. Had a mixed bean, sausage and kale soup today! You want to talk soup, you just must have us in the discussion..sorry for the blatant plug, but sometimes you just have to speak out. Its really not about business, we have plenty of that.. its about people actually driving by daily to see if we are featuring their favorite soups, which happens every day. People begging for recipes on a weekly basis..the proof in in the pudding, or pot as you will. Bill

Actually Rainbow Blossom never occurred to me. Thanks.

I should warn you that the Stonybrook location doesn't have soup (hope I didn't fruitlessly send you there today!) but the St. Matthews and Gardiner Lane shopping center locations both always have two soups - rainbow veggie is their staple, and they change the other daily.

Panera's soups are a guilty pleasure of mine, too, because they have like 6 to choose from and they're all pretty damn tasty (albeit a bit uncreative)

I love the soups at Panera. They appeal to my uncreative nature.

Rather odd that 27 posts and not one mention of the only place in town that is a soup place--Zoup. Silence is golden!

Are you a regular, James? To be honest, I hadn't been, and had to look it up to remember what/where it is. I wonder if it's not a target for me because it's a ch- ch- chain or because the 400 block of Fourth isn't on my regular rounds. What's your opinion of Zoup?
