Okay, enough is enough!! I was told by the owner MICHELL of LA BOCA!! to come in Monday and we would "settle up". Was then told by the owner MICHELL of LA BOCA!! (downtown New Albany folks)to call back on WED!! Was then told by the owner MICHELL to call on Thursday (got an answering machine) and we would "take care of it" on Friday...........Well.........today is friday and in my last message, I stated something to the effect of "dude, just give me $80 (less than minimum wage for the hours I worked mind you) and I will not bug you anymore as I wish to be finished with this debachle. So........I go in today @11:30 and was told he was "too busy" to speak with me.......(I have been doing this for 35 years and I can spot a duece with open menues and a six top happily eating their generic Italian fair..). "I will wait" I exclaimed....Well, Ex-Wife of said owner saunters in and reverberates that I will "have to wait" and then proceeds to question the hours that I KNOW FOR A FACT I WORKED!! She then threatens to call the police if I do not leave (guess I can't wait till he has time after all) !! REALLY?? Let me get this straight, you are going to shamelessly hose me on my pay and then call the cops on me because I have been waiting patiently for THREE WEEKS to get at least minimum wage??? Those of you on this forum have probably known me for years and know that I am an honest guy with some pretty decent skills but I have NEVER.....EVER..... been disrespected or discounted in such a fashion. Yes, some places may indeed be in need of an "outing" and frankly, while I don't normally go there, this place deserves it!! While they won't be hearing from my attorney (he's busy with my other family issues), they WILL be hearing from the Indiana Department of Wage and Labor Standards. A brief parting word for all restauranteurs who frequent this forum....TREAT YOUR STAFF HONESTLY AND FAIRLY (as I did with my own restaurant) ,or FOLD UP YOUR TENT AND GO HOME!!! -Dave

Wow.

David, this is a terrible situation. What a mess.

You have always been a stand-up guy and it sucks when someone gives you the bum's rush like this.

Hang in there.

David,

Thanks for naming La Bocca. As a long-time forum member, I know it's absolutely not your style and that you would have preferred not to. But it's a service to others in the industry to warn them what they could be getting into working for this business. If they'll do this to a seasoned professional like you, I imagine it would happen to less experienced people too.

PS. I looked it up and the correct spelling is La Bocca so I've made sure to include this so it will be picked up in Google searches.

David,

PS. I know it is no comfort, but reading their reviews you were clearly not a match for them. They get ratings from multiple customers for being quote: " Better than Olive Garden".  Your high level of food is totally inconsistent with what they appear to offer- I don't think you could just do " better than Olive Garden" if you tried. .

Wishing you all the best-

This is dirty laundry I can get behind. The way you describe it makes me believe every word. And in that case he SHOULD be exposed. Nice job sir.

Wow, this hits close to home. I am currently working on a cash basis gig, and got paid for first week, 2nd week ends Sunday. Owner seems interested in my ideas and l am getting excited about the opportunity. I am trying to re-open a kitchen, and it will be a "project". Hoping it will work out, but will keep a more wary eye. PS Been in the "business", 34 years, and this is a first for me.

As I noted to Chef Clancy when he first relayed this story to me, I hate to see things like this happen. 'Nuff said.
