I find it hard to believe that no-one mentioned McDonald's yet.
Image They have far and away the best fast food fry out there...Too bad everything else on the menu pales in comparison.

I'm also a HUGE fan of the shoestring fries at Steak and Shake...

Dan,
I'm also surprised no one mentioned Mc Donalds untill your post. They are by far the best.....even though they're fast food.

Dan,
Congratulations for being the first person honest enough to say McDonald's! Everyone else seemed intent on showing their food sophistication by listing gourmet restaurants as having the best fries while everyone knows their heart that McDonald's truly has the best fries. There fries don't try to get fancy or sophisticated they're just great fries!

Yes many of the other restaurants mentioned have very good French fries for various reasons, texture, flavor or various other reasons but for a truly good French Fries we all know everyone goes to McDonald's!

Mark:

I am not sure that everyone neglected to mention McDonald's fries as an effort to show "their food sophistication by listing gourmet restaurants." I hardly consider Palermo Viejo as an elitist or "gourmet" restaurant. It's a casual Argentine restaurant. They just happen to make really good fries.

The question was who has the best fries in town. I think most people took that question to mean which LOUISVILLE restaurants have the best fries. McDonalds does indeed have good fries, but if someone asks me who makes the best fries in Louisville, I am going to mention Louisville restaurants. I would presume that the person has been to a McDonald's or two back in his town.

I get tired of cracks about people on this forum trying to be "sophisticated" just because they happen to like a place like Palermo Viejo or L&N. I think Len would be appalled to find out that people think his place is elitist in some way. In fact, can think of few more simple and satisfying dishes than a plate of steak frites.

McDonalds fries are indeed quite good. Too bad that everything else on the menu is so sweet or salty as to render it inedible.

In fact, it's well-known that McDonald's sprays a little sugar solution on their fries to make them golden brown ... and unusually palatable to children's tastes. Is this Good Eats?

Children will eat fries with/without sugar solution sprayed on them. If the kids are going to McDonalds and eating a supersized order of fries, that's not McDonald's fault, it's their parents' fault. Regardless of sugar solution or not, when I want good fries I go to McDonalds, and limit myself to a small or medium.

everything at McDonald's is sugary and sweet. Sometime take a bite of one of the hamburger buns by itself. It's almost as sweet as a donut. The sauce on the Big Mac is very sweet too.

G.D. Ritzy's

by Sanjay S » Sun Nov 04, 2007 2:12 pm

Not sure if any of you remember the G.D. Ritzy's chain (they went under in the late '80s, but there are still a few locations around - I think the closest is in Owensboro), but they've got really good shoestring fries... and Chick-Fil-A waffle fries are always good.

I like the fries at Red Robin! I find them to go great with the burgers and not too greasey.
