Let's see,

Hoosier Daddy is delicious; I had some Sunday. There was also Community Dark on cask and I had some of that as well and it was the best I've ever tasted it. Yes, I also had some bitter ale (Beaks Best) cause I'm a bitter drinker and I can't resist it.

Bank St with the garage doors open and the big screen over the bar is a fabulous place to watch a game. I know, I've watched several there. I don't have to tell you how good the food and beer is and every pint is a full pour. Best of all, Crimson and Cream will be the regalia of choice on Friday night. Easy decision - I'm in!

Shane, Shane, you are just too young. I used to play music down on Washington Street in the 70s and this woman sounds very mild. We had one lady who joined us onstage sans underwear in an orange formal and a backpack and proceeded to do "the scissor" dance with her legs. I mean, come on. There are people who cannot control alcohol. When it's a middle aged woman it ain't gonna be pretty. You should actually be bragging about this. (wink wink) What I find funny is that I have seen this same thing happen in some of the finest restaurants in Louisville. Do we want to mention Porcini at this point?

The Courier Journal is so dry now, will you please write a few articles and send them in? I love your style. You were lucky to have one singer. You should have seen what I did on St Patty's night with 10 drunk women and "Mustang Sally" at the end of the night. Case closed.

Thank you Shane for the story. This was worth the admission price to the forum.
You are an admirable "Mark Twain" of sorts.
And places like JR's Pub are good establishments for portrait painting.

Hi Linda and thank you for the kind words!

Please forgive my ignorance; I've been participating in this forum for less than a year and I don't know nearly all of the main characters here yet. What is your band? If you play Mustang Sally you must be in a blues or rock band no? I would love to come see you somewhere!

Where will you be this weekend?

Tongue cheeked.
Payment is overrated and short lived.
Interested, I am in your next musings.

It was Olivia Hall at the NAX Exchange who first said “Shane you should check out Hotbytes.” I had been coming to NAX for only a few weeks - mostly for lunch and Olivia and I would take turns playing “Yeah well have you eaten at XXXX yet?” So, if you want to blame someone for my participation here - blame Olivia! If you want to meet a truly beautiful person - go play Trivia with Olivia at NAX on Thursday nights.

Once I found the forum I was instantly hooked. First of all, I had been reading Robin Garr's food reviews for years. His reviews are the best I've ever read hands down. I love them because they are stories. Yes he puts in all the pertinent facts about the food even down to the exact bill and tip but I don't read his reviews for that. Sorry Robin. I don't really care if Robin or anyone else likes a place. I'll only know if I will like it or not after I've tried it a few times myself.

No I love Robin's reviews for the story. I feel like I've been taken along with Robin and Mary and whoever else might have been lucky enough to get the nod. I find myself laughing out loud at times or nodding or frowning etc. It's a mini-adventure! So when I realized this was Robin's forum, well I lurked for a few weeks but of course I was just looking for an excuse to weigh in.....on something!

By then, I had gotten to know several personalities that play on the forum regularly and its sort of like when you watch a TV series long enough, you feel like you know the characters. Of course you don't really and when I waded in that first time it was with great trepidation.

I wrote a silly scenario that involved a bunch of the Byters that I read most frequently. I had come to know their personalities just a little and I had a little fun using some of their specific characteristics. In some cases it was just their avatar. When I realized what I had done, what liberties I had just taken, I was practically nauseous. I immediately posted a mea culpa and hoped I would not be banned out of hand. Robin's response – Not Yet.

The rest is history. My best HotByter friends are those who responded immediately. Both openly and privately, I got support and it was sweet let me tell you! I will never forget the kindness of some of you. Since then, I have sort of found my voice and I enjoy subjecting you all to it. I am a huge fan of some of you and I steal shamelessly from you. You inspire me. When you see something I've written and it sounds familiar it's probably because I've stolen it from you. Please believe me when I say, I'd credit you if I didn't think it would just embarrass you.

Let me just issue a blanket credit right now and let this stand as my notice to you that if you write something that captures my imagination - I will use it. If you call me out on it, I'll just congratulate myself on eliciting a response. Know that if I use your stuff it's because it inspires me.

Alright so prepare to be embarrassed some of you because I'm calling you out now. I read very many of you but these below are my Byter Rock Stars.

JackieR – Bet you saw that coming. Jackie expresses herself better than anyone I've ever read. Her posts seem to be a stream of consciousness with raw imagery that is breathtaking for me. … “after God tore the sky asunder”... Jackie about the storms on March 1st.

AntoniaL – Her posts marry wisdom, intellect, and sass. Often in the same sentence. When someone recently took exception to something she posted, I got very indignant and started to defend her. Then I realized that would be like Barney trying to defend Andy. I often need Wikipedia for Antonia's posts.

Roger Baylor – Roger's posts on Hotbytes are the least of his literary works. If you haven't read his recurring column on Louisvillebeer.com or the Potable Curmudgeon you are missing out. Roger has written forwards for books and honestly the only thing better than reading Roger on beer is hearing Roger on beer.

Robin himself – When I actually post something that's supposed to resemble a restaurant review I reread some of Robin's just to remind myself of what one is supposed to be like. When's the book coming Robin?

StephenD – Like his profession - his posts are high art. I mean really Stephen can't you just write a simple list of ingredients and be done? No chance. Steven's posts are as synergistic as his drink creations and far greater than the sum of their parts.

DanT – Dan might not appreciate this but his posts often exactly represent my views on a given subject except they are more effectively written than mine would be. Thoughtful and mature, his posts are like the grown-up Shane will never be. Now his off site behavior is more like......

RonnieD and Ed Vermillion recently posted stories that made me want more. Hear that guys?

Many of you are very authoritative in your posts and I am often not competent enough to understand much less respond to your posts as much as I want to be involved. I recently tried to interact with DebH by challenging her with a stump the chump. It took her about two seconds to reveal me as the chump. But she did it in a nice way. (That's Kitch Girl) I also challenged KenB one day about beer; something I thought I knew a bit about. Instead of getting indignant, he schooled me in a way that earned my respect. Of course most of you already knew about Ken's skills.

Finally there's SteveP. The daddio is the most entertaining personality on the forum by several orders of magnitude. I've been confused by SteveP more often than any other Byter. I consider myself fairly perceptive where communications are concerned. It was my specialty for twenty-one years. I admit that I often don't know when Steve is kidding. I once joked to a Byter that Steve could post his sock size and he would get 500 views in an afternoon. Byter replies “What kind of socks?” <shrugs>

This is no acceptance speech or attempt to take a bow. I really just wanted to say thank you to a bunch of people who inspire me. The recent praise I've received regarding my post about Trisha was very unexpected and much appreciated. I'll keep doing it because its fun. The biggest pay off for me is when you think enough of my post to respond with your own thoughts. Cheers!

Shane, David correctly pointed out that is was Eddie Donaldson's 100 Washington St. I could write a book about it, but not as eloquently as you. But nothing exists anymore that can rival the good old days when all the clubs were hot downtown! Ya know- back in the days if you were drunk a cop would take you home.( As for me, I was playing Mustang Sally with Lindsay Lane and Axis. We'll be at Jim Porter's next weekend. I also do the country music circuit. We're doing a big tornado benefit April 1 with loads of jamboree singers. I also play the very loud calliope on the Belle of Louisville. )

I'm sure the people here who have worked around alcohol over the years could tell a bunch of good stories!!

Don't know if anyone is still looking at this post but I've justed posted some very interesting news about our favorite foodie super hero - Kitch Girl over on the all about Loo-ville forum. I wanted to post it here but was told that might be inappropriate. Since when do I know what's appropriate?

I just wanted to move this back up to the top one last time. I wish to direct you to the link below to give you a chance to do something for one of our own. The voting is over at 5:00 tomorrow.

http://admin.kentuckyderby.com/oaks/survivors/deborah-louisville-kentucky-0

Deb is someone that I know everyone here holds in the highest esteem. I've heard through the grapevine that some of you felt that some of the things I've written about Kitch Girl, Deb's (fictional) alter ego, may have brought discredit on Deb.

Let me say that I'll never do anything to intentionally malign anyone on this forum let alone someone I respect as much as Deb. She inspired me to write about Kitch Girl, and it seems silly to have to even say this, but no one really is Kitch Girl!

The best protagonists are always flawed. That's what allows us to identify with them. So if Kitch Girl has a couple too many drinks while shepherding her foodie flock all night and forgets where she parked her car, well that just makes me love her even more.

If she contemplates exercising her womanly wiles to influence her husband, well what's negative about that? Remember that's me writing about Kitch Girl - not Deb. Don't expect me to write from a woman's point of view. From a guys perspective that's well........you know!

KGirl's adventures are very obvious commentaries on what I'm thinking about the subjects of the moment. They are meant to be humorous but without a doubt they reflect my opinions and mine alone.

So I've been wanting to clear the air about that ever since KGirl's last adventure. I will cease writing about Kitch any time Deb wants me to.

Kitch could probably get up to some pretty good shenanigans at Oaks don't you think?

"KITCH GIRL MUST MARCH" I tell you. Please help make that happen!
