I do not eat a great deal of meat because I don't like the taste and texture. I NEVER eat steak. I eat chicken and bacon and that is about it. Very occasionally I will have pork loin. I have not tried meat substitutes, but if the texture was similar to a real steak, then I would not like it. I don't use tofu or any soy protein.. I have said it before, if it wasnt for bacon I could quite happily become a vegetarian

Well, he knows his stuff, then! Too bad he's not on HotBytes. I wonder, too, about the apparent oversight of Roots/Heart and Soy, though.

Hello hello! Robin, thanks for getting me signed up - we actually met at a Morels private tasting several months ago.

So glad many of you saw the article. I wanted to answer of few of the questions that seemed to arise in this thread, and I apologize for waiting 6+ months to do it.

At the time, I was a committee member (i.e. organizer) of the Louisville Vegetarian Club, not the president. That role was, and is filled, by our founder Carrie Klaus, a wonderful lady from Sellersburg. We have since renamed/branded ourselves to the Louisville Vegetarian Initiative and I invite all of you to check us out: http://www.louisvilleveg.com

I definitely did mention Heart & Soy/Roots in the draft, but VegNews choose not to include it. I ended up submitting about 10-12 restaurants and 2-3 other places, and they whittled it down to what you saw in the article. The intro and by line "batter up!" was all VegNews, though I did think it was kind of funny. Most of the descriptions of the restaurants, etc. were mine.

I am trying to get them to do one for Cincinnati at the moment, but we'll see how that goes. Again, thank you for mentions!

Yeah, kindda like someone who would take a thin slice of meat and stuff it between two pieces of wheat bread, add a slice of tomato, a slice of onion, some pickles, tomato catchup and mustard and make that little piece of meat taste less like meat and more like vegetables! Heck, its got so much veggie gunk on it that you can hardly open your mouth around it. Kindda weird.......

Maybe I am just weird but I don't understand why anytime a non-meat eater makes a post regarding a new non meat product there is always a meat eater that gets all hot and bothered and upset. Some of us don't eat meat because we feel like a high amount of animal protein is bad for us. I still like tacos or curry and I find the meat substitutes helpful. Jeez Louise!
