I'm guessing Thunderfoot. It doesn't have a dog on the label, but after a few NABC 22's it is hard to see straight.

Surely you realize my posts were just a set up to brag on myself! :-)

I thought my scotch eggs awesome, though, and I didn't forget the jar of Coleman's, either.

As for the beer, maybe my memory is suffering, but I don't think it was Thunderfoot, either. I'll be sure to look for it the next time I'm in Valu Mkt and report back. I'm starting to question everything since Dave hasn't replied- maybe he's sparing me the embarrassment?

ThunderFoot is the only imperial stout we have in a bottle. Jaxon and Elsa Von Horizon are the only two "Brewers Best Friend" beers being bottled. No EvH has been sold in Louisville, until next week.

Was the beer Bonfire of the Valkyres?

I officially feel dumb. I'll check VM because I remember roughly where my selections were displayed. I was torn about my choices and it was a last minute decision to go "all NABC". It's entirely possible that I'm talking about beer that someone else brought. I'll let you know.

Don't feel dumb. VM has an awesome selection of beer. I love the bomber display outside the beer cave.

Are "bombers" 22oz'ers? I've only ever known of them as the proverbial double deuces :).

Shane, I know this thread has veered away from the rye, but you might also want to check out Arcadia's Sky High Rye and the Widmer Bros. O'Rye-ly IPA. The latter has the nuttiness David refers to when the rye is malted, and both are slightly less heavily hopped than the Sierra Nevada and well less hopped than the NABC Yakima. Shiner has a rye lager out that I'm mildly curious about, since all of the rye beers I've had are ales, and occasionally I'll have one of their beers that surprises me as being a cut above average. That ATG rye aged beer sounds interesting to me too, since I shy away from most bourbon barrel aged beers for their overly syrupy nature.

Ken, thanks for getting us back on track. I'm easily distracted these days. I would really like to try some beer that has character that I can attribute to the malted Rye. I will be meeting Justin today at ATG - bridges willing. You should meet us as well if you can. I may then seek out some of your suggestions, the Widmer and Arcadia especially. Cheers!

Another rye that might be a perfect fit for your love of session beers the is Mild Winter from Goose Island. Its ABV might be a bit high at 5.6%, but it has some fantastic spicy rye characteristics. We've got it on sale for $6.99 a six pack now too.

Todd, I'll definitely see you today to pick up some of the Goose Island. 5.6% is fine in the real world we live in. Me own British "beer dad" sent me a pamphlet from the 2011 Henlow Beer Festival. Keep in mind this was not anything to do with session or specifically even bitter beers. It's just an annual festival held in the town I used to live in.

There were nearly 50 bitters on the most recent list and most were under 5%abv. The Brits love to drink beer and a lot of it. They figured out a long time ago that they can drink more beer when its weaker in abv. Keep your doubles and triples, I'll have another mild please!

Cheers Todd!

My guess is that the mystery beer was Thirsty Dog, Siberian Night
