Anthony, this is good news. :D

I've been walking and driving past the Bruegger's site every day for a month now. I had a theory they would soft-open today, but I drove past it at 10 this morning. Nope. We went by at noon, and saw firemen carrying Bruegger bags. I stopped the car. My wife and I ran in and told them how much we were anxious to get real bagels. They were actually still training, but with real bagels. We had just had 'bagels' elsewhere, but I couldn't refuse a free one: Salt with onion-chive cream cheese and a cup of coffee. They are, indeed, real. What a relief. We're four blocks away, a five minute walk. Ahhhh...

This was a softer than soft opening. I think we got ours because we begged, but I bet they'd let others get some. The real soft opening is Monday - I think they said 1-6. The real opening is Tuesday, and they open at 6 am.

By the way, one of the owners said the company had just switched from Green Mountain to their own coffee two months ago. I was actually a little sorry about that: I had had GM in Rochester a lot, and found it a good coffee. I think being here has made me a more sophisticated drinker. I drink only Red Hot Roasters at home, and prefer South American and Asian beans. I'm not a fan of African coffees - too thin and fruity. Bruegger's coffee is pretty good, but not my style. Others may be quite satisfied. I don't have any idea how they're sourced.

But I am really happy - as happy as I can be about chain. There's just no one in town trying hard enough, especially since Dooley's left our neighborhood.

Looking forward to good bagels in this city. I grew up getting mine from a deli/bakery in Skokie (just outside Chicago). The real deal. Hopefully, Bruegger's will be good.

Nimbus, when I went to Loyola Lakeshore about 1 million BC we used to take trips to Litberg's to get the bagels as they came out at about 7;30 pm..

The new coffee for Bruegger's nationally is produced by Royal Cup Coffee. They were chosen because of the consistency of their product and their ability to produce diversified coffees. Bruegger's choices will be a House Blend and decaffeinated blend of Central & South American coffees, a Rainforest Alliance Certified French Roast, a hazelnut blend and a rotating 5th coffee. A lot has changed with Bruegger's since they were last in Louisville. They have evolved from just a bagel location to a more bakery cafe that will produce more than just bagels. I think it will really be a great addition to Louisville.

Ken,

So where exactly is it? I thought it was at shelbyville and Breckenridge, but the mention of Molly Malones threw me. Downtown St. Matthews?

Thanks!

Molly Malone's IS at Shelbyville & Breckenridge. Bruegger's is about three or four doors south, on the end of the Breckenridge Station strip.

In good Louisville tradition, Molly Malone's is where BW3 used to be. Just west of the Old Sears building. :D

I stopped by today, but they don't open until tomorrow (Tues., Feb. 7). If you "like" them on Facebook, you can get 3 free bagels on Thurs., Feb. 9.

Stopped in at the end of my walk today: salt bagel, onion and chive cream cheese, red onion, capers, and lox. Ahhhh... yummy, chewy, pully, really bagel. And their French Roast is quite good - better than their House Blend. Walked home with a bag.

I am so glad this place is finally freekin open. I've never see so much ado about a place that's not even open. I'm just an Indiana boy who thought for my whole life that bagels were just stale donuts. I even lived on Cape Cod for six years listening to "A"s pronounced as "R"s and "R"s not bothered with at all. I'm going to check this place out on Saturday morning. I'm going to get a bagel with cream cheese and lox cause I've heard of that my whole life. I'm expecting a life defining experience. Wish me luck.

I liked Bruegger's when they were here the first time. And I enjoyed lunch there yesterday. Since Dooley's went out I've had the occasional crave for a bagel lunch joint. This will do...
