They started opening on Sundays when they started doing brunch a couple of months ago. Prior to that they were not open on Sunday.

Sounds good to me! I vote for a Sunday. Should we go ahead call it a Coal's offline and start a second one later if there's enough interest in doing a VK thing as well? Thanks for stepping up, Mark!

Just please remember the vegetarians in the group and provide as many veggie selections as carnivore selections. :)

Thrilled to host you all. I know Chef Mike will be excited to cook for all of you as well. Sunday through Thursday would be just fine. I will talk to Mark and work with him on creating a memorable evening for the group.

Thank You!!!! :D

I certainly will and it shouldn't be a major problem to provide vegetarian items there!

I am quite sure either would be find with Suzi and I.

Sunday's are OK, but, what about a Tuesday evening at 7? I am asking cause I know a lot of restaurant staff who are foodies have to work on Sundays but getting off early in the week is not so difficult.

It appears that Coals is the winner. Works for us.

Madeline Peters: you have got to make those stuffed mushrooms!

Fixed price is ok, but, ... never mind we can just order different/extra.

Let me know when there is a non fixed price, order what you'd like/can afford offline and I'll be there.

I'm not a huge fan of this format for large groups, either, but I'm easy. Mark, I think this should be revisited. Kinda get a consensus from everyone.

I'd like to know more about this, too. Frankly, it had never occurred to me that there was a problem with a prix fixe, but I totally agree about consensus. Would some of you who don't think it's a good idea care to tell me your reasoning? I swear I don't want to argue, only to understand and find consensus. If you'd rather tell me in private, feel free to use PM or Email. :) )

I prefer free choice. It's as simple as that! When I set up off lines at Sake Blue and Village Anchor, attendees were able to order off the menu.

I tend to like free choice myself. :) But when we've had pre-planned offlines, like at Red Pepper and Peking City Bistro, I thought those worked out pretty well, too.

What I don't like much hasn't come up at HotBytes offlines that I can recall, and that's where everyone orders from the menu but then agrees to split the bill equally at the end, arguing that it saves trouble, and most people got about the same stuff anyway. The problem there generally comes if people in the group aren't really close friends, and somebody decides that someone else is taking advantage. I think we kind of intuitively avoid that approach here, although it's been an occasional issue for offlines on my WineLovers forum.

It may price me out and may limit my selection, just like Red Pepper.

Sorry, Robin - I didn't mean to post and run. I wasn't going to say anything, but Dave won't come if we do it that way, Richard had a "meh" response to it, and Leah's choices are a concern.

1. Cost and quantity. Evern if it is affordable for some, it may not be for everyone. I for one never eat my entire meal, so I would probably not get my money's worth unless I asked to take a box home.

2. I just don't think it's that kind of restaurant. At an ethnic place where you are intrigued by exotic choices but don't want to take risk of basing your whole meal on just one of them, I think it's great. But we all know what pizza is. It was fun to do at Martini's, but we just did that recently.

3. Just like Gayle said - freedom of choice. My favorite way to dine is to choose at least one other person to share with, but I always get choose at least one thing on my own. What if the one thing I really want to try isn't served? Also, my dessert is always in the form of liquid, and I don't ever see that on a prix fix.

I can overlook all of this, but I wouln't want people to stay away because of this format. It's all about the company, after all.
