I wouldn't consider Varanese, Basa, Bourbons Bistro,Volare or Porcini to be minor league by any strech of the imagination.

Add in Caffe Classico, Grape Leaf, El Mundo, North End, Maido and Sweet Surrender, to name a few more, and the "minor league" comment becomes even less valid. As a resident of Crescent Hill who used to live two blocks off Bardstown Road, I will agree that there is more energy and more of an urban feel along Bardstown Road than on Frankfort Avenue, but I'll take the somewhat slower pace, the trees and the buffer provided by the CSX tracks any day.

I agree with everyone- 2003 is waaaay late! Some of the best places I remember growing up were CLOSED (or nearly closed) by then! Zephyr Cove, Allo Spiedo, Clifton's Deli, Wagon Wheel

Not dissing Frankfort Ave here, it's nice. I don't go to that area much but from the way you describe it, sounds like a nice relaxing area, especially for older folks and Boomers. I know Robin loves it over there.

It has a tighter neighborhood feel with Crescent Hill transitioning into Clifton along Frankfort. I love all the restaurants there. I know for certain that Lynn's was there as early as 81 or 82. Personally I find it a bigger pain in the ass to park along Frankfort than Bardstown Road and so we avoid the area on the Crescent Hill side of the tracks on weekends. Closer to town around Varanese it's less problematic.

I still miss Dietrich's - it was the first fine restaurant I was ever in that had an open kitchen. We were young and felt ohh so cosmopolitan. Tasted sweet breads there for the first time. Getting old!

How does it get any better than sitting at a window table at Caffe Classico, dipping piping hot pommes frites and watching the trains go by??? Or sharing berries and cake and people watching from the cute little two-person-window-bench-seat at Irish Rover??? Or enjoying coconut curry and sipping a ginger lemonade on a table outside Sari Sari???
