I hate cilantro! On our first anniversary over 20 years ago, my husband and I went to the Galapagos and traveled on a small boat with a couple dozen others. Our cook served every meal covered in cilantro. The only thing that did not include cilantro were the fruit juices and some of the rice. I ate very little that week. We got our hopes up one day when the cook traded some items for some fresh fish from another boat; we never saw the fish which we guessed was served to the crew. I am sure the flavor of the fish was masked by cilantro. I have not been able to eat it since then and hate it when restaurants don't mention it as an added ingredient. The first 5 years were the worst where I would be physically ill by the taste or smell of it. It does not taste like soap to me but more metallic and acidic.

my wife hates cilantro, i could take it or leave it. I have noticed that lately it seems like the trendy thing to put on a dish. i have never seen it used sooooo much as i have in the last twelve months. enough already. I agree that it should be listed on the menu and often isn't.

I agree that it is possible to use too much cilantro. Sometimes, less really is more.

Has anyone else seen it sneaking into the prewashed organic baby mixed greens salad at Whole Foods, Kroger, etc. ? I must admit that I don't appreciate cilantro in salads. Seems to clash with most of the dressings that I like.

I am with you on the clashing with salad dressings thing.

I like some cilantro in various dishes, and I like gobs of it on banh mi. But it's presumptuous to add it to a salad mix.

whatscookingamerica.net/cilantro.htm Ok, now I understand the difference. As I use coriander in my falafel balls, I guess I like it. Maybe there are people who don't like the first stage, ie the leaves, but like coriander seeds?
