So... I have been to the Yum Center once (for Katy Perry, don't judge) and was appalled at the concession pricing. $7.50 for a domestic draft??? I understand the idea of captive audiences and charging what the market will bear, BUT... the Yum Center has made UofL the most profitable basketball program in the country.

I know the pricing is about average for a market this size but it's still hard to justify charging such when the university is raking in money. How about this... lets reduce the pricing on concessions and raise the price of all UofL game tickets. Let the fans pay for their own stadium.

U of L gets a piece of the action from concessions at non-U of L events?

I doubt it, but who knows. My point is that there should be a balance between profitability and the blatant rape of your patrons. Being that UofL is the primary tenant of the center, my irritation might just be undeservedly directed at them. I do know that an extra $2 "tax" is added to all UofL tickets for something like the next 30 years to help pay for the stadium. I'm just saying that if that fee were say... $5 instead, maybe the center wouldn't need to stick it to the average joe quite so hard.

I believe that at this very moment there are thousands of people in several dozen U.S. cities protesting this very thing. Perhaps, when the next revolution actually begins, the people responsible for this type greed will be dealt with accordingly.

It costs so much to be a UofL fan that we avoid buying refreshments at football and basketball. The only time we buy something is if we didn't have time during a work week, then we stick with PJs breadsticks:-) Same thing with airports, if I have to, I have a yogurt or special coffee. I can go without food.
This past game we started at BBC lower level and forgot about the loft being open now. After one beer and a sandwich, we paid, and went up to the loft for another beer at the bar. Next time, we'll go straight to the loft bar before the game. Great space. They have a limited menu and will be taking reservations before games and events. It wasn't opened after the game when we returned Friday night.
We have been in the Evans Williams bar for womens' games and that food isn't bad. If you share one item, the price doesn't seem so bad:-) The Legends room is so dull, compared to the other bars, that I don't bother to go in it. I can get a mixed drink there but... Last year they had different offerings at the beginning of the season, then switched to carved meat for sandwiches. Not for me. The same thing every game, game after game. (The other bars either have great views or have really neat club like decor, this one looks like it's geared to the senior citizen - which unfortunately I am but don't want to act like one. The Burnette bar is all white with alittle blue, the Evan Williams bar is red with a bourbon theme with barrels, bottles, etc.
Largest sports bar in the world.
Oh, I will have to break down and get one of the Homemade Pie Kitchen cookies. Huge.

Yeah! The masses are being oppressed by overpriced mediocre concessions! Centerplate will be the first ones to the guillotine!

So what is it? If the food isn't all that good - what difference does it make how much it costs? Griping to gripe? I don't recall ever going to any athletic event or concert and being wowed by the taste or value of the food. If you got an axe to grind with Yum or UL why not gripe directly.

Seems to me that the arena is having some pretty decent spin-off in the Main Street corridor and that's directly benefited quite a few local establishments. I suppose they could have built the thing adjacent to 4th Street Live. Carry on with the whining.

The original Redbirds at Cardinal Stadium under A. Ray Smith's ownership. There's the problem. A. Ray was a real old-style baseball guy, understood fan satisfaction, and he raised the bar. A lot of ball fans have a long memory about what it was then and what it is now. No, it wasn't gourmet fare, but it was the first place in Louisville where you could get nachos. More to the point, it was good food sold by friendly, smiling people at reasonable prices, and the underlying attitude seemed to be "Give the fans a good time, and profits will follow," rather than "Go for the profit, and as long as we can grind it out, who cares what the fans think?"

(Note that I am talking here specifically about the recent history of concessions at Louisville baseball, not specifically about Centerplate or the Yum Bucket.

Ohhhhh, I don't know that Centerplate will be at the front of the line but I'm betting whoever ends up in charge of the "guillotine" will get around to taking care of greedy bastards like this eventually.
