Is that the old naked pizza location?

From Heather's description, I thought it was this spot:

Yeah - again, I was driving the car, but I am almost positive I saw the signs in the windows of the brick building that is show in Jeff's post above.

Saints used to occupy pretty much the entire lower level of that building. They renovated some space in the part further from Shelbyville Road, and then moved out of the brick-sided part, a while ago... maybe well over a year ago, actually. I believe that the brick-sided part has been vacant since then.

Now, I am a staunch, card-carrying locavore. I seek out products and places that are real and from the region. I am, yes, terribly upset by the chaining of Bardstown Road - Dunkin' Donuts, Panera, and Uncle Maddio's Pizza (though given the competition, I can't see it surviving. I AM glad to see that long-empty strip mall occupied).

And, yes, I do like Baby D's. I went there yesterday and had an everything bagel with cream cheese, capers, onions, and yummy locally smoked lox. I'll be back.

But - and I have a big But - I found myself jumping in the air and singing when I verified that David's heads-up about Bruegger's is true. Now I'll be able to run just 4 blocks away on Saturday or Sunday morning and get some fresh, hot, REAL bagels. Oh, joy, joy! Even if they were as close, I couldn't go to Baby D's and do that.

I went to Bruegger's in Rochester often - until the best bagels in town - Balsam Bagels - was opened by a former student of mine just blocks from our home. Bruegger's is probably as close to real as we'll ever get in Louisville. No one else seems to want to try at it very hard. Actually, if you put one of Bruegger's in a blind test next to the most authentic NY bagel, you wouldn't care that much about the difference. Well, I wouldn't.

So I am happy. I'll never complain about bagels again. Now, if someone could just master Jewish rye...

Ken,
I feel for you. We actually found a great supplier in NY for a par-baked product- Robin did a write-up on it for Leo in 2006 ( I seem to remember daring him to come and try it  ) Alas, it went away when our store did the same... :( But if anyone out there is interested in stocking it, I'll happily share contact info ( and come buy a loaf) .
