Well for that style of nacho I like Rafferty's (covers head and runs for the exit). I do like them.

Westport General Store's version is excellent. I'm not sure what the pure definition of "Tex/Mex" is, but I thought it was great.

On a weekend, go early to Chuy's (near Oxmoor) . . . in the bar area, lots of hot chips, fresh taco meat, acceptable cheese, tomatoes, and jalapenos . . . you build your own nachos . . . normally, I would rate this a "B-" grade, but during happy hour IT IS FREE, which for a young person may bring it up to an "A"!

The chicken fajita nachos at just about every "cookie cutter" mexican restaurant. El Nopal, El Caporal, etc... OMG DELICIOUS.

Do you have a link to your daughter's nacho blog?

El Mundo, Cumberland Brews, and Drake's all have excellent nachos. The buffalo chicken nachos at Drake's (I had them sub buffalo shrimp) are all individually dressed, which is always nice.

I'll have to put the nachos at Jack's/Equus at the top o' the heap. They are pretty labor intensive to make as each individual chip is topped with meat and cheese, broiled and then topped with house made hot sauce, guacamole, sour cream, jalapenos, and diced tomatoes and scallions. I used to hate making them back in the day, but they sure are tasty! :D

I have to say that Jack's Equus are pretty darn good but I still put Chef Dave's at the top. We use bison and beef toppings. Can you say Throw Down? Lets rumble........

Thanks for all the advice, we'll be checking out a few of these places in the near future. Until then, please add the Steak Fajita Nachos at Senor Iguanas to the list of worthy candidates. My daughter and I tried them today and the Nacho Expert gave them a solid "B"...which I believe is akin to the Food Dad giving some place an "87".

BTW, the service was great and the ground beef Chimi I had as an entree' was dah bomb.

You know, I actually enjoy the chicken nachos at Qdoba.

Black beans, chicken, queso and then I have them customize mine with a variety of their salsas (corn, mild for the tomatos and some green for the tang) lettuce and a dab of sour cream. They also have shredded cheese and guacamole as options.

If you don't want your chips to get soggy they will put the toppings in a separate bowl and you can dip. Not my style, but some like it.

A plate of thems and a bottle of cholula (which they gladly provide) and I'm pretty happy.

As much as I eat out, I have yet to find extraordinary nachos in Louisville. My favorite would be the white chili nachos at Dundee Tavern. If she's ever up in Ohio, have her hit up the Winking Lizard for the chicken nachos.

If you want the best nachos and all around best Tex-mex. Take a short drive to northern ky, and go to abuelos Mexican food embassy. I am from Texas and this is the closest thing around here I have found to good tex-mex. There queso is awesome. Heck I don't think We have had a bad meal there. We found it while on vacation in myrtle beach. They also have one in Lexington,ky. I've been to both and they are about the same distance. About an hour drive. For me its worth the drive every once in a while for real tex-mex. Stay out of chuys, they got two people in my party sick and the food is always cold. Chuys in Houston is good but these owners have no clue. Good luck and let me know what you think of abuelos.
Abuelos; crestview hills,ky and Lexington,ky. Go on website for entire address. They also have one near indy.

I lived in Dallas for 14 years, so hopefully I have a little tex-mex cred. I also recently had a gig in Indy for a few years and tried one of the Abulelos there. I really not into nachos, so I can't judge them. But I can say that the enchiladas and tamales are underwhelming, on par with every other mom-and-pop texmex joint in Louisville. It pains me to say this, BTW, because I really miss me some *good* texmex.

Abuelos...We used to dine there often when we lived in Oklahoma City. Darn good food in an otherwise God forsaken place. Didn't realize they had one in Lexington. Maybe we'll get lucky and they'll close down Chuy's (they should) and put in an Abuelos.
