Re: The Best BUFFALO Wings in Louisville

Amen Steve.

People ask me if they should try the traditional style or the grilled BBQ and my reply is always "yes".

The house made blue cheese dip and the onion rings are excellent also.

One of these days I'll figure out why this place isn't packed 24x7.

The Blue Cheese dressing/dip is food crack...and you can buy it by the pint. I've found pieces of Blue Cheese in it half as big as my thumb. An awesome dressing. Two thumbs up for their Burger as well. Not the best burger in town but flying very near that top tier of burger-dom.

:? ...I'm with ya on this. I will never-ever figure out why this place doesn't get jammin' for lunch, etc. I've been in here several times during the lunch hour and been the only customer in the place. They do draw a pretty good crowd for college hoops though and they downright rock during the Buffalo Bills games.

Funny thing though, I know Marty fairly well and I think he kind of likes it the way it is...He's a pretty laid back guy and somehow the thought of him driving some balls to the wall inside the Watterson sports bar establishment doesn't seem to "fit" this mental picture I have.

The wings are great, but every time I've been in, the service has been painfully slow. The hubby has been with several co-workers at lunch time, and it was a good hour-and-a-half for lunch. That's why it's not jam packed.

:? ....I have to agree, the weekday lunch service can be pretty slow (and lately somewhat disinterested...but that's just one server) but I don't know that I've ever had it take that long. Back when Big Jim was running the house things seemed to be a little more on the ball during lunch.

I've never been there at lunch, but my last two visits I was waited on by a very polite and attentive young lady who took good care of us. She seemed to be working the whole front of the house by herself, but didn't miss a beat. Not that it was crowded or anything.

Food is sometimes a little slow coming out, but is always fresh and hot. I've learned to give the fried items a second to cool before digging in. The grilled wings come out perfect every time. Made to order takes more time than big hot plate of pre-cooked wings spun in sauce and dumped in a basket. I make allowances for that.

Rooties is one of Louisville's hidden gems and serves some of the best wings I've eaten. Right up there with Buffalo's best. IMHO.
