The one at Wild Eggs is pretty dang good. Mortadella on foccacia.

Nothing beats the original, though. 4 cut method, Fischers bologna, seared crispy and a slice of schwag singles cheese...

The food of mama, the stuff of childhood, the ligament of the South!

(a fried egg never hurts, either!)

Pretty dang good or not...There should be laws against impersonating such an iconic dish.

South ???? Mmmmmmm...I'm thinking it's a bit more universal than that. Fried Baloney Sammiches are pretty popular "Beer Joint" faire in parts of Ohio and Pennsylvania (primarily "Coal Country").

Agreed; mortadella has been dated back to 1376.
To each his own, I haven't had a fried american bologna sandwich in 10+ years, but quite enjoy a traditional bologna sandwich.
Where would we be without a riff on the classics? No fried american bologna, no american pizza, no rock and roll.

Snap! I never knew you folk had it above the Ohio...

The twist on the classic is still dang tasty- call it 'the rose by another name.'

It does smell just as sweet.

Oh, and by the way, it's pronounced "bloney." Just two syllables, if you please. At least that's how my family and their cohorts originating from the Portland section of Louisville say it.

Don't forget the grilled version. Get about 1/2' thick slices grill em up, and cover with bbq sauce.

I grew up in Indianapolis and as such I didn't grow up eating these things. So, as an outsider, I'll second the baloney sandwich at Wild Eggs. It's awesome.

When I was a kid my mom used to score bologna and dip it in pancake batter, fry it up and serve it with syrup. I LOVED when she fixed it, haven't had it in 30 years. I have never found anyone else who heard of it. She grew up on a farm and I always assumed it was a "country" thing. Man.....I think I'm going to run out and get some bologna......
