You win Steve!

I love my kegerator, buy I'm a chubbier man because of it. Don't get me wrong, I am resigned to my fate, I'm just trying to keep a little control of things.

Justin - I'd love to get the Levitation Ale, I just have not been able to find someone who can get me Stones.

Thanks,

Doug

Stevie P,
I too am envious of your basement. Now if that popcorn machine is next to the entrance to your high-end home theater then that's just not fair :x BTW I attended your excellent BBQ 101 class the other night and it was great! I was one of those who just paid to eat your BBQ. It was worth it too. I was also pleased that you were thoughtful enough to supply us with beer. I was so pleased I suppressed my disappointment that it was of the Macro variety.

But as Doug mentioned the tap in the basement is a dangerous road to travel. At least for me it would be. I vastly prefer draft beer and the only thing keeping me from drinking beer every day is that it (draft) is not readily available

Several people have identified great tasting lower abv beers available around here and I agree. I feel lucky that there is so much. But if you go into NABC pizzeria and look at the big board you will see many more 8%+ than 5.5% and below. I basically just look at the abv to see which beers are really available to me to drink. If I can't have at least two (for me) there really isn't much point in it.

Mr Baylor I'm waiting for the Low Gravity Head festival to be announced :P

I've been thinking about it. Would the fest be called Reverse Gravity Head?

Today at the Pizzeria & Public House, we had our Keller Pils, Strassen Brau, Community Dark and Tafel, all below 5% abv. Usually Abzug in one form or another is on rather than Keller Pils and Strassen Brau.

There are low-gravity examples of various styles on the bottled beer list, too. Session consciousness is increasing, and personally, I'm a frequent practitioner.

I have to throw my voice out for this post. I am 100% in agreement with the original poster and this request. And although a lot of replies have offered reasonable alternatives, the beers mentioned don't quite do it. I quit drinking beer for a minute and found solace in the NAs out there to get the flavor without the alcohol, so I see the idea behind the original query (and also ABSOLUTELY prefer the flavor of bitter beer). I've often wished cola companies would produce a half syrup soda. When I worked in the industry and had free access to the soda gun, I regularly diluted cokes with club soda - miss that, for sure.

As mentioned earlier, the trend for high alcohol beers is just that, a trend. I have no idea when it is going to end but I think it will be around for a while yet. While most brewers I talk to prefer to drink session strength beers (sub 5.5% imho), there tends to be little excitement around them in the marketplace. It seems that every brewery is releasing more batches of limited, one-off, high octane creations. These beers get all the press and attention from the beer geeks and in turn leave little oxygen left for the discussion of more moderate offerings. Retailers who are beer-centric respond to this attention and offer them disproportionally to the lower ABV choices. This whole process is a vicious cycle for a lot of brewers. They must continually push the envelope just to stay top of mind. Just look at all the crazy things Brew Dog out of Scotland has done in the past 2 years. While this is probably a fun challenge for many brewers, I don't know if it's sustainable in the long run. Beer has historically been the drink of moderation enjoyed by the majority of the population. However, as much as I enjoy them, it's tough to be moderate when you're drinking 9% IPA's.

It'll be interesting to see how this plays out.

Roger- do you produce 1/6 barrels of your Community Dark or Beak's Best? what about 1/4 barrels?

If yes, how can I get my hands on one?

Thanks,

Doug

So obvious yet.......quite hilarious! Please do this if possible! I think the High Gravity affair is very well attended? I saw quite a bit of activity on the forum while it was going on. The "Anti-gravity" ruckus might just bring out the rest of us! :)

We sometimes have no kegs at the brewery these days, demand is high and we are trying to catch up with it by expanding. But you can always get any of our beers by going to a Liquor Barn. Also if they do not have the beer you are looking for just ask an employee if you can place a special order for the keg you want. That way you are guaranteed to get what you want when you want. You can do this by phone as well. They have a very wide variety of kegs available to them, but they can not carry them all in stock.

Glad you enjoyed it...Woulda liked to have had the ribs in the smoker for another 20 minutes but what the hell, ya can't hit a home run every time up to the plate. The beer was leftover from a little 50 person "gig" we did at home the previous weekend. Couldn't see letting it go to waste.

I had the chance to talk with Shane about session beers last week and these are my 2 suggestions.

Boulder Beer Hazed & Infused 4.8%
Left Hand Stranger Pale Ale 5%

Shawn, I really enjoyed my visit to CPC last week and I wish I could have attended your Schlafly tasting last night! We may be going out for pizza tonight and I'm going to suggest we come up your way..... especially you know with the bridge situation and all

For some reason every time I suggest a place we've never been the wife thinks I have an ulterior motive (beer) and she is usually correct. I'm not steering the car tonight though so....

I've had the Left Hand you mentioned and it was very good. I also like the Mad Anthony as pictured on your Facebook page. I am intrigued by the Boulder and I see on their website that they are distributed in Indiana. Do you stock any? I will try Keg in Clarksville. Hazed and Infused sounds perfect!

Thanks again Shawn

The Keg and Bridge both probably stock the Hazed & Infused, I first had it on draft at NABC of course. We currently carry it in 12 ounce cans, but we've only got a couple left. Boulder makes great session-able beers and Hazed has great dry-hopped citrus nature to it.

The Schlafly Tasting was great fun and night and great connections were made between beer drinkers and the brewery.
