Thanks!

Thanks for all the great suggestions. I'm sure it will take me awhile to work my way through all of them, but it's a job I'm looking forward to!

I have tried some of your suggestions already - Lonnie's, Vietnam Kitchen, Qdoba, Café Lou Lou, Hero's, Karem's, Gumbo a Go-Go/J. Gumbo's, and Yang Kee Noodle have all been crossed off the list. I thought most of them were pretty good, but none were among my favorites... maybe I just didn't order the right things? Well, all except for Qdoba - they're one step above Moe's in my opinion, but not as good as Bazo's or Chipotlé (btw, anyone know why we don't have a Chipotlé around here? I think they would do pretty well). Yang Kee Noodle was okay - definitely better than Iching, but not terribly exciting. Vietnam Kitchen was a little better than Annie's Café - I should check them out again and try some different items next time (their menu was a bit overwhelming with so many choices). I liked Hero's but I've got a sister in the Bronx so I keep comparing them to places in New York, and they seem to fall a little short... but they're still the best New York-style pizza I've come across out here.

Still haven't found a really great burger or a favorite Thai spot (I'm exceptionally picky about the Thai since I lived in Bangkok for a bit). And I'm still trying to track down the mysterious taco vendor on Preston Hwy.

Again, thanks for all your suggestions.

If you are pretty new to the area a few of these are worth checking into because they are long time fixtures in the community seldom recalled or noted in local media. Some places like that are Check's that was already mentioned so I'm trying to not duplicate any of those, sorry if I missed previous posts and do. Also, depends on what you drink, but pretty good & good value for the frugal are:
Bootleg BBQ
City Cafe
Ditto's
Meridian Cafe
Spinelli's
Pig City BBQ
Sari Sari
Ballyhoo's
Lolita's Tacos (haven't been in a while, assume still around)
J. Gumbo
Kashmir
Ray Parrella's
La Bamba
Marrakech
Sahara (new place on Lexington)
Kaelin's
Pita Delites
Ollie's Trolley (978 S. 3rd)
Twig & Leaf
Simply Thai
Thai Taste

I had a great $7 lunch @ Stevens and Stevens today.

Also for lunch, a Jack Frys burger that comes with my favorite french fries, is under $9 too.
